Hey all I just picked up my 2008 GTS yesterday and took it for a joyride (drove slow and kept the rpm low while breaking it in). Anyways, I have the CTV and when i am going slow (5-10 mph) i will take my foot off of the accelerator to start breaking for a stop sign. Ive noticed that when i take my foot off the gas it has an engine breaking feel (which is fine) but as I am slowing it feels like its dropping its "gear" and the car feels like its learching forward a bit like it still wants to go. I know there are pulleys and not gears but i was surprised by the CTV to feel like it is dropping gears when breaking. Do you guys feel this at all? Is it normal?

 

I started feeling something similar to this the other day...just out of the blue. But it didn't always behave like that. It tends to stick & learch at 1250 RPM and stay there (weather I am on the brakes or not) until I get to 20 mph, then it throttles down normally...does it every time like clockwork and only if I exceed 20 mph.

 

Yeah mine is already doing it (just got the car saturday). I am not sure if this is normal for the CVT in its gear ratio configuration- at 1250 rpm it drops down to "first gear" from second and it wants to move forward.

I just got the car so I hope this is not an indication of a problem starting. I guess if anything does happen it would be covered by the warranty.

 

Any other CVT owners that have the same or a similar issue? This is my first CVT (and only my 2nd automatic tranny), so I'm still not totally familiar with all of the quirks.

 

Same here, this is my first automatic car so I am not sure if this is a normal feel as it is downshifting or not. Its not a bad learch it just feels like the car is engine breaking and then releases i guess as it gets into first. I am not sure if this is normal or not, i just think its weird to feel this on a car that does have gears.

Nj 08 Gts, how old is your car, cause you said it just started happening. I just bought mine 2 days ago so I wouldnt think it would happen on a brand new car. Makes me think there is a problem.

 

I got mine in late June and it has almost 13k miles. It just started happening about a week or so ago. I'm pretty sure it's not normal, since I did not have this problem from the start. It's weird (and quite possibly stupid), but the only change I can pinpoint between "1st gear" sticking and not sticking...is the change in outdoor temperature. That's about when it started.

 

Actually that doesnt sound that stupid at all. I got mine this weekend and it has been in the 30's and 40's. It wouldnt make sense for a brand new car to have this problem - unless it is "normal" at cold temperatures.

Any other owners with CVT noticing this??

 

yes... my car was doing this... it roll faster when it drops below 30km/h (19mph)... i think it is just gear shift...

btw.. did any1 notice that the torque converter goes on and off if u want to cruise your car at 40km/h(25mph)?

 

How long have you had your car? And when you say "was" doing this, does that mean that your car stopped doing it or are you still feeling it. I havent noticed anything with the torque converter, next time i am driving i will pin it at 25mph.

Btw, anyone else notice this forward pull? I wanna make sure it is the normal CVT and not a problem.

Has it always been like that, since when you drove it out of the lot, or did it suddenly pop up? I am starting to think this is just normal for an automatic. Im sure its just dropping into "first gear" but the rpms stay at the same spot because it is a CVT. maybe? hopefully! lol

 

Also, are there any CVT drivers that have not noticed this?

 

I have driven my CVT and it has 9000 miles on it, and I have also been feeling this lately, especially with the use of the air conditioning or heat on...so I'm pretty sure it's normal for the CVT.

 

Yeah I guess so, my concern is that you guys are just noticing it after putting miles on the car, whereas I just got mine 2 days ago and are noticing it. Is it possible that you guys didnt notice it before and it was there? or maybe the dealer reset the mileage and its an older car? Starting to get curious, which is always dangerous.

Any other input? CVT users having the same problem or not noticing this at all?

 

It's totally possible it was always there...I'm one of the most un-observant people you'll ever come across.
