new clutch
new clutch
i am really unfamiliar with the drivetrain stuff so please forgive anything stupid i say. My clutch stopped working the other day, the pedal started going straight to the floor without any pressure. I got it to a shop, they pulled everything apart and said that a bearing went out in the slave cylinder and destroyed the clutch. they are quoting me a price of 1500$ to get it replaced with only 550$ of that being labor. here is the breakdown from what i understand:
clutch 141$
pressure place 210$
slave cylinder 234$
some kind of bearing 160$
mill flywheel 125$
The price seems way out there to me, do these #s look like they are in the right ballpark for this? If not, if i were to have them put in an aftermarket clutch which one should i look at for a completly stock car that is just a daily driver?
I am moving across the country in 2 weeks and really cant afford that much. Please help!
thanks

Well, will you need to this car to be operational for the move? or will it be trailered? If not needed, then wait till moved.
Somehow I doubt the slave cyl is bad. The milling costs are outrageous. The "some kind of bearing" is the Throw Out Bearing (TOB) that comes with the clutch/pressure plate pkg! Basically they're trying to rape you!
If you order a Works clutch, it'll come with the clutch, pp, tob, and the alignment tool for like $400 I think. I do suggest milling the FW, but that price needs dropped like a bad habit!
Sorry about the situation, but tell them how it's going down and don't back down. Tell them you'll go somewhere else!

them people are ripoffs
i got the same quote so i said bite me and went online to ACT and bought a hevy duty racing clutch and pressure plate for 400 then went to the dealer and got the TOB for like 115. im bout to put it in myself here in a couple hours lol. the stock clutches are more expensive than the racing clutches lol hope this helps
When I did my clutch 2 years ago, I paid $500 for a clutch/pressure plate/ TOB and another $300 for a lightweight flywheel. I forgot what the labor charges were. What are they telling you that are going to charge for labor? It sounds like you are getting ripped off.
ur pedal going straight to the floor sounds like your slave cylinder went out. my pedal did the same thing about 4 months ago.
as far as parts go i think i paid 3-400 for oem clutch n pressure plate, and slave cylnder but i found a cheap tuner shop to do the labor which was like 350

Just had to replace my slave cylinder and it was like $140 from
dealer. Thats prob the pedal to floor problem. As far as the throwout bearing it comes with the clutch kit usually. I got a stage 2 Spec Clutch kit and the throwout bearing was w/it. That was a lil less than $400. Thats only $540
