Lancer ES Drivetrain Swap

Was thinking about switching the drivetrain from FWD to AWD. Just wondering how dumb of an idea it is.I know it'll be pricey and people say just buy an EVO but I'm just looking for some feedback

If u really want to then u can. The drivetrain in the outlander is a direct fit. The lancer even has the tunnel. All u will kinda need is a new gearbox from the outlander, the actual drivetrain, and a new fuel tank (the old one obstructs the driveshaft tunnel).

Haha yea.I shoulda thought before I bout it and looked into a used evo but the more I think about it an undercover evo will be so much more personal instead of just upgrading original parts...that's what I keep telling myself anyway since I'm gona be payin this car off for quite some time haha

yeah i wouldnt even attempt it. if it was easy as swapping with an outlander, someone would have done it already. especially if you have a new car u gonna be paying on. right when u start the project your warranty goes kapeesh. that and you would probably end up spending 20-30k on that. much better to save that money and at LEAST get a used ralliart or something.

Honestly, you'd be better off selling the car and buying an Evo. It's not something you can accomplish in pieces over the years, at some point, you need to do a lot of mods to get the car physically moving. The cost of buying all the parts individually rather than as a complete package will also be very high and it's unlikely you'll be able to put it together anywhere near as well as they can at the factory. Moreover, as far as insurance is concerned, if you do such a dramatic swap, you need to tell your insurance thus negating this idea that a swapped Lancer is cheaper than an Evo to insure. If you want an Evo, buy an Evo, if you want a faster Lancer, mod the Lancer within what the Lancer is capable of.

I dont believe the outlander drivetrain is confirmed for 08+ but I suspect it should fit as should the ralliart drivetrain.

At the end of the day, its honestly cheaper to buy an evo.

it is. i had a couple of talks about it at the dealer with some of the techs before, they basically said from the steering wheel down, the outlander is identical to the lancer.
