Loud Ticking....Just Noticed today

While sitting at a long stop light earlier today, I stretched and pushed on the brake hard. I then noticed there was a ticking sound and I could feel the ticking vibration in the brake pedal. I definitely notice it more when the brake is excessively pushed down, but I still notice is when sitting at a stop light and the brake is lightly pushed down. I don't know what this problem is and I searched for any related topics and couldn't find any of this sort. Does anyone have ideas. Haven't changed the tranny fluid and i have 18 grand on the motor. Would that have anything to do with it????Any Ideas????

Is it an auto or manual?

If auto, it could be the engine trying to pull away, meaning the brakes aren't engaged enough to hold the car at a stop.

This would be possible if the pads or rotors are badly worn or warped, and the engine is running cold, and idling high.

If it's a manual, I'm not really sure. Are you in gear while stopped, or do you put it in neutral and let off the clutch?

all mitsubishi motors have ticking sounds, its the eletronic valve lifters, i think you're good, if anything just get them adjusted.

i think i figured the problem out...mechanic here suggested my abs pump sucked in some air. that is what is causing that sound and the vibration in the pedal. however, it doesn't make the sound when the auto is set in neutral. so i don't know.

well, i guess i still don't know what the problem is.....and i have no ideas. All I know now is that the noise is louder the harder i press down the brake pedal when it's in drive. but for some reason the noise is gone. i'll be driving again once i leave work here tonight, so if i hear it again...for sure i'll be posting the problem.
