2003 Lancer OZ Rally Clutch Problem

So i downshifted my car and my clutch kinda broke. It is very loose now and when I have the car started i can't shift when I depress the clutch pedal. The car will start with it depressed and I can shift when the car is off. Whenever I try to shift when the car is running, the gears grind. Any idea of what happened?

depends on what's leaking...if it's the slave/release bearing, you have to remove the transmission...

have a look for brake fluid leaks between the master cylinder and the slave...if none, look at the bottom of the bell housing, where it meets the engine...you'd see fluid leaking from there if the slave has completely exploded...

Okay I replaced the master cylinder and bled the clutch. The clutch pedal feels tighter but it's doing the same thing. I would pump the clutch and hold it down as my dad bled it from the slave cylinder. We did 5 pumps then hold it then bleed. We did that about 20 times. Checking to see if it changed anything. Nothing changed. The last time we bled it im pretty sure the slave cylinder exploded cause the clutch is now super loose again. Did we bleed the clutch invorrectly?

The 02-03 lancers have a internal slave. You're going to have to open the transmission. Might as well order a new clutch, slave, and throw out bearing. The 04-06 es/ oz lancers have a external slave.

to bleed the clutch system, you DO NOT pump the pedal, that's only for brake bleeding...just push it to the floor, open and close the bleed nipple and repeat until you have normal pressure, don't forget to make sure the reservoir is overfilled, so the clutch master cylinder can draw new fluid, otherwise you'll be drawing in more air, and going in circles...if the slave exploded you should see brake fluid dripping out of the bell housing...you can remove the flywheel/flex plate dust cover and see if it's wet inside. you can also remove the dust boot around the slave cylinder and have a look through there...I would even suggest converting to a fork type release with external slave cylinder...

Okay fellas, I appreciate all the help. I now have replaced the master cylinder twice, nothing changed. If the slave is internal and exploded is it possible for there to be no leaking? And I'm just gonna replace the clutch. Do you guys know any website that has an affordable clutch kit for a 2003 Lancer OZ Rally? Thanks guys!

if air is getting in, fluid should be coming out...rockauto.com has pretty good pricing on exedy clutch kits.

I was going to convert 2A fork type release but I didn't I know exactly what size or what model number external slave cylinder 2 get that would fit... Along with the right size throw out bearing fork and pin... And my gearbox has the 2 bolt holes used to mount an external slave but like I said I don't know what size or model number to get... Cuz when you ask the parts store they tell you that the recommended slave for that your model is the internal slave?

03 oz rally clutch/tranny issues

Yes I'm wondering about the same thing I would like to interchange to the external slave because I've replaced my clutch and had to replace the internal slave about five times because I kept blowing the seal i replaced input shaft bearing master cylinder Axel's still kept blowing the seals now it's leaking gear oil between the bellhousing and the engine and my gearbox also has the bolt holes to Interchange for an external slave I just don't know what part number and everything just like ask in this thread but didn't see any answer or reply back to that that's why I'm asking about it as well
