Question Rumor and Q about tranny fluid

My Pearl 2002 OZ with 60'000 miles
could use a new tranny fluid, the gears are hard to put in, etc.

So after 60,000 miles can I change a tranny fluid in my OZ with manual trans?

What kind of fluid?

thx

( I searched the forum for the answer = nothing )

I don't think you're ok with just about anything. I haven't had to do that yet, but I may just for the hell of it at 30k (even though mine was replaced when my clutch was installed).

I dunno what the interval is supposed to be for tranny fluid off the top of my head. Since you gat the car used (right?) and you seem to have pretty high mileage, I think it would be wise. The reason I say I doubt it matters what brand you use is just because we don't exactly have a high performance transmission and your car is more or less stock. I can't say I'm terribly knowledgable about this though, so hopefully you get more replies.

transmision

for the us spec lancer you have to use aspecific type of transmision fluid that usualy has to be bought from the dealership.

It doesnt matter how stock you are, we have a special adaptive transmision system that continously changes its shift points bassed on your driving style. Not to mention that our transmisson is the same that is used on v6 models as well as turbo aplications. So this isnt some trown together trany.

I sugest you call your local garages and see if they can get the specific type of trany oil you need for a lancer, other wise take it to the dealer.

No thats BS. They give you drain plugs for a reason. Go change the fluid.I think it holds just less then three quarts make sure you have enough fluid.

No offense, but your friend is an idiot. Fluids age and are meant to be changed. There is no fluid in your car that is meant to stay there forever. Be it brake fluid, freon, gasoline, etc.

On to reality.

Yes, change it. Do it now. I did mine at 30k and my tranny is fine 10k miles later.

Here's the How-To article (I should know, I posted it).

I used to own a Honda and read that Red Line fluid eats up your syncros. I am guessing it will do the same for a Mitsubishi. Therefor I will not put red line in my car. I just canged it the other day with only 17,000 on it and was glad that I did it. Normal internals are every 30,000...granted that I drive my car hard it needed to be done alot earlier. I used Mobil 1 Synthetic 75w90. You will need about 2.7 quarts so just buy 3. Mobil runs about the same price as Red Line. I paid $35 for 4 quarts. I would recommend you use Mobil and not Red Line. It works good and it shifts alot better.
