No More 2nd Gear

Ok, I need a little information here. I have a 2003 Lancer OZ 5-speed. This morning I was taking off (in 1st) from a stop sign while leaving the neighborhood. I hit about 3 grand, clutched, and tried to put it in 2nd, but it didn't stick. There feels like there's nothing there. The whole gearshift feels looser than before (especially on the leftside towards 2nd), but 1,3,4, and 5 all work fine. So I guess the questions I have are: 1) Am I gonna need a new transmission? 2) How much is that going to cost? 3) What could have caused this? I bought the car used, so I guess i could have been a previous driver. I've had the car a little over a month.

YOu can always check into a rebuild. Just pull out the yellow pages and start calling transmission shops. I have found when it comes to anything transmission related, it is best to call every shop in the phone book because the price range will vary greatly from shop to shop.

If you want another tranny, check the junk yards. But it sure sounds like you are gonna be doing one or the other. It's just what you want and how much money you want to spend. Hope this helps some.
