4G93 IM, idle problems?
Alright, so I've got my '93 IM installed, but I'm having some issues.. First off is the idle. While in neutral, every five seconds or so my rpms drop about four of five hundred, creep back up, and then drop down again abruptly. I'm concerned that a vacuum hose might be in the wrong place - everything on the '93 IM seemed analogous to the '94's, even though the brake booster's attachment (via an extra 10" of hose) is tucked away in the back. I've poured through the service manual trying to make sure that all my hoses are where they should be, and everything looks good.
The idle seemed to level out after some hose adjustments and an ecu reset, but once I eased it off into the street, the nutty idle returned and the CEL came on. D'oh!
Any suggestions are welcome; could the upgraded fuel rail have something to do with this, too? Because that went in at the same time.
Addendum, after reading one of the previous posts right here in the troubleshooting section, I guess I should check my plugs, plug wires, etc, and get that code read. The local Kragen Autoparts store didn't have the right adaptor for the OBD II, so I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

sounds like a vacuum leak to me. but def get the code read
if you do suspect a vacuum leak, you can spray something (i believe brake or carb cleaner) around the areas where you might think the leak is, and if the engine revs or dies, then its cause the spray leaked in
also, cause you had to take the tb off, make sure all bolts are on snug (including im ones). if the code reads "idle rpm too high" or something like that, then you'll have to adjust the screw on the top of the tb, under the black stopper. but we can walk you through that once you narrow it down more

The rain hasn't helped much, but I think I've got it right. First, the lower middle nut on the IM -> cyl head took a good half turn, if not more. Next, and probably more importantly, the TB bolts were way loose. This was probably a huge oversight on my or my friend's part, but either way it looks like it's fixed now. With an ecu reset and a crank of the starter, it revved high and then evened out very nicely. I ran it in the driveway for a few minutes; everything sounds great.
Now for a road test, pick up some turn signal bulbs for my new taillights (you rock Rigo!), and pray that everything is fixed!!
Much thanks to everyone!

I'm thoroughly impressed. A bored fuel rail went in at the same time, so I really can't tell the difference in performance between one or the other; but throttle response is definitly improved and gives a kick around 4000 rpm. Yow.
One of the best side effects is the sound this thing helps generate. The rrm headers really took something away from the tone the engine produced, but this IM again alters what I'm hearing. At WOT in the higher rpms, this thing just throbs!
I've been driving around all day much like Rhyzin described; with a stupid grin on my face.
