engine overheating after repairs
I just got my car back from the body shop after a decent accident. Now the thing overheats with the a/c on in traffic. Also the a/c clicks on and off, but i think this is because there is a sensor that disengages the a/c when the motor gets too hot. My question is one of the fans on my radiator blows in and the other out, the one that blows out is right over my headers blowing all of the heat from them into my radiator is this the way it's supposed to be or are both fans supposed to suck the outside air into the engine bay, like most cars? Also I tested the radiator fliud and it appears that the idiots put in straight coolant and no water, bad. The main thing that i want to know though is if the reversed the wires on one of the fans or if one blows out and one in?
Take it to a dealership and have them replace the fan controller. That seems to be what was causing a lot of the problems you're describing. It takes about a half hour. Mine was longer while they figured out what all the warranty-voiding mods on my car were
Oh WOW...i have to mention that on all 2002-2003 Lancers...they had a recall to replace all fan controllers because they can blow and cause engine heating. That is exactly what the service manager told me after takin my car in for the recall.
sure. You might as well have the free stuff fixed. And if it's still not working right you can take it back to the shop that did the original work (but it sounds like they kinda suck) or find a new shop to fix it. I know how much this problem hunting sucks.
I would maybe do it but I drive an 04 and i don't think the recall is in effect for that year. I have an appointment for next Monday with the shop that did the repairs, but like engineerboy said they suck, so i would like to fix it myself but i need to know if the fans both blow the same direction so i know if thats even the problem.
