Cigarette lighter stopped working!

Anybody had their cigarette lighter stop workin? The light still works, but woopty doo, cause I don't smoke! I went to the dealership and they wanted me to pay a diag fee, but $35 for them to tell me it ain't working ain't gonna happen right now! So they said to check the fuse, so I went to Auto Zone and the guy said that the fuse was fine! The only thing that I have used the thing for is my cobra ESD-9210 "Safety Alert" radar detector! Anyone have any suggestions?

Ben

check the fuse to the rader detector. if there is a light where the lighter goes it should have power. use a multimeter to check voltage in the slot. I had the same problem with the rader detector and found that the fuse was just bad. good luck

Ditto - check the fuses on the parts that plug into the cig lighter. If you want to see if the cig lighter is good, push in the actual cig lighter and see if it heats up.

I didn't splice anything I just plugged it in! It worked for almost a year and oneday went kaput!!! The guy at Auto Zone said that the fuse was fine though! I mean a new one isn't but like 5-10 bucks I think. He said that it was fine though and I should not have to get a new fuse!

how come you can't just shell out 5-10 dollars for a new cigarette lighter? I mean if its not the fuse and you can plug the actual lighter in and it still doesn't work, then buy a new socket.

If a fuse is going to cost you 5-10 dollars then you are going to the wrong place.

take out your center console and check under it and see if the cig lighter is still plugged in

if it isnt pluged in then the light wouldnt work..there are multiple fuses that are linked with the cig lighter...

fuses for the cigarette lighter are like 3 bucks for a pack of 5 or so at auto zone. Change the fuse. If you have a voltmeter use that if not just change them. because fuses can look fine as far as not being broken at glance but they could short so it just better to change it. and wouldnt the light work regardless cause that is ran off interior lights fuse.

no th e light wouldnt work regardless...then he would have no interior lights...it could be a blown bulb..

just take the center console out and check the bulb, and the wiring to the cig lighter..
