hey all,
i just received my Short Ram intake system today
, the only problem is, its not as easy as i thought
. this is TOTALLY different from a civic, my civic was done in about an hour.
the lancer one is weird...u got the stock filter with the scoop connected to the front grill....i'm told that i keep the front scoop intact, but there is also the chip on top of the stock filter.
i read somewhere here on the forum that once u install it, ur ECU will not detect it and that we had to reset the system?
can one of you please help me install this? this is totally different from a civic....
please help me.....

Hey man , invest in some vise grips to get those nasty bolts of the stock intake box you may break the box or stock nuts many already have but thats kinda how they came to the conclusion to use the vise grips .. other then that it looks pretty much simple from the pic i like that adaptor at least it's not a 4 inch 1 and you won't have to run around lookin for a 4 to 3 inch piece to connect the filter.. hope that helps you some, and hey try to see if u can make the stock intake scoop get as close as possible to that filter i say this cause you don't have a heat shield so any lil bit of cold air you can get would be good... with my custom intake it sits just about right behind the slits in the stock grill so i kinda just force the air right in ya know..... but nice setup and good luck..
Who said to keep the front scoop intact? Is that what the direction with the intake sytem said? The only short ram intake for Lancer's that keep the front scoop is RMR as far as I know. But I have never heard of BOMZ Racing intake for our cars so I don't know if their setup is similar. Just be careful with the bolts on the MAS.
And reseting the ECU is done by disconnecting your battery, which you should do before you even take your old intake off, and then reconnecting it once you've installed your new intake. Then start your car and let it run idle for 10-15 minutes and you're all good.

deux, mon ami. Invest in an impact wrench.
Pop the rivets off of the from air dam, take the whole assembly off of the airbox. Unclip your filter and take it out. Use the aforementioned impact wrench and a #10 metric socket to take the bolts off of the bottom part of the air box. The nuts that held my MAS to the airbox weren't tight at all, maybe finger tight- except for one. For that one I took the wires off of the MAS, the MAS off of that big hose and took the MAS out of the engine bay. I used a pair of pliers in my left hand and the impact wrench in my right. The nut spun right off. And, that's about it for your project. You should check out my homegrown SRI at

PM me if you have any other questions on this one. Bon chance!

My RMR intake came with instructions explicitly saying to disconnect the battery (just negative terminal will do) for at least 10-15 minutes, then once you finish installing the intake to let it run idle for about 15 minutes so the ECU readjusts to the new readings.
I don't see why these directions should change with any brand or style of intake because it's the exact same thing. You're increasing air flow so you need to prep the ECU. Some people say you don't have to cuz the ECU will learn it, but if that's the case, why would RMR bother saying to disconnect the battery?
That's all folks.

You can definitely hear a difference in sound with a short ram versus the stock air box. When I'm going about 80 or so, all you can hear is the intake growling, and that's over the test pipe + RMR exhaust.
We shall soon see what I hear more when I get my RPW header and downpipe installed.
As for performance gains, I can feel much more response in the lower rpms, but as far as actual hp gains nobody knows. RRM claims a 3/4 second gain on 0-60 time with their SRI, so you get a little something.

Just be careful when you're removing the bolts from the MAS. Use an impact wrench if you can, cuz the bolts are just held in by plastic and they'll snap off real nice if you use just a socket wrench. Found that out myself.
