Question Help! Cig lighter not working!!!!

Anybody know what the problem might be if it does not have any power? AutoZone said that the fuse was fine and dealership wanted torun Diagnostic test on it! Any ideas? All I used it for is my raday detector and my tire pump. I was putting air in a tire one night and it turned off and I thought the pump broke, but when I went to plug my radar detector back in it did not work either. The light still works, but there is now power to my radar detector. What else could it be if the fuse is fine?

Ben

sounds like a fuse to me too...if you were using the air pump you probably were pushing that thing to its limits.

if you have been doing any work to the center console, i.e. installing a short throw shifter or anything like that, you might have had to disconect a plug just aft of the shifter. check there. If the ash tray light is on, then that connector is probably hooked up, if the ash tray light is off I would definately look at this connector, it is acutally under the rear section of the center consile towards the front..............

the fuse for the cig lighter is on the drivers side of the car under the steering wheel... there is a little cubby door that opens remove that and the fuses are behind it the fuse diagram is on the side of the cubby that you should now have in your hand...... I believe the cig lighter fuse is in the second row from the top (small colored fuses) and 3 fuses in from the left (looking at it as if you were in the drivers seat) it should say 15A on it...... keep us informed as to what the problem is when you figure it out

This has happened to me MANY times and each time, it's been the fuse. The Radar Dtector uses too much juice.

Hehe...We've been doing tons of this kind of circuit testing at scool. If it's not the fuse, your cig lighter is most likely run in parallel with some other crazy circuit in the car. I've never looked at our wiring diagram for it yet, but there can be MANY things wrong with it...not just a puney fuse. Take it to a good shop to test it out, If the stealership has good rates, do it there.

actually, on second thought...if you had a short cicuit, it WOULD blow a fuse. You probably have a bad connection, bad wire, or a short to the ground. The only way to really find out is find what circuit is before it, and see if that one works. HAVE FUN!
