Unhappy "engine control" fuse keeps blowing out

The "engine control" fuse keeps blowing out everytime it's hot outside my engine control fuse blows out. It sometimes happens at night when its cool must mostly during the day in the heat. I change the fuse and it will turn on again. Sometimes it wont work at all. It will keep blowing fuse after fuse. Has anyone ever had this problem and if so what was the issue?

Have you done any mods to the car, or any dealer recalls you've had done on it?

moisture in the fuse box, bad ground somewhere, recent mods, recalls, etc?

Well I went to the coast 2 weeks ago and the day I was coming back I washed the car in those car washes that rinse all around even underneath the car. Well, that next day the engine fuse started blowing out. I thought maybe when I washed it something may have gotten wet but it's been 2 weeks. Other than that I haven't done anything to it.
Where would I find out if there are any recalls on Lancers?

Short to ground somewhere or higher than normal voltage going through the wire. Check your alternator output voltage.

Does the alternator output voltage change with heat? because i'm noticing the fuse doesn't usually blow out at night or when the days are cool. It burns out in extremely hot days

Alternators use zener diodes to limit the maximum system voltage effectively, turning excess output into heat. If the diode opened up the system voltage would go real high, thereby either increasing battery voltage to a point it heats up and blows up like a balloon and/or breaks a inline fuse to the battery. Check alternator output voltage .

You have a short to ground. Most likely cause is the rear O2 sensor wiring contacting something metal like the heatshield. If not the rear O2 it is probably another sensors wires grounding out.

Everyone is missing the point that once it blows the new one will often immediately blow out and the car won't even restart on a new fuse.

so i figured that when I turn the key to turn the car on and push the pedal the car stays on and the fuse doesn't blow. It's llike i have to pull power from the batteryor it will burn the fuse.

I recently downgraded my ROM on my ECU to the 88590015 using Tephra v5.10. Using the Knock Light and Rear o2 Simulator Mods. I am not supressing the P0030 code therefore my CEL is on all the time. Sunday morning I rode out and make a couple of stops.

Car started with no problems numerous times during the day EXCEPT after the last stop. The car would not even crank. No starter winding noise. I checked the fuse box under the hood to see that the closest relay to me (an Engine Relay) was lightly loosened, but not noticably. I still pushed it down and heard a quick spark noise and a click. The spark noise was VERY faint and the CLICK was louder. The car started with no issues and ofcourse the CEL light on since I had a misfire going (P0030). Driving in Manhattan was a task cause of all the potholes and traffic. While on the FDR Drive I noticed the CEL light went off. I seen this and thought the ECU cleared normally as it does when ON and OFF randomly when using Cossie 272.

So I parked and went home for the night. In the AM(7:17) I go to turn the car and it cranks but no start. Just winds. I see that the Engine #8 fuse keeps blowing. I tried looking at the front and rear o2 sensor. Didnt put it on a lift and remove it yet but that is next. Its been raining and it not ideal after 5PM outdoor garage with 42 degree weather.

I have 2 things in mind to check:

a) I have Tephra 5.10 with rear o2 simulator mod(known to overheat the cuircut). I will turn this mod off tonight, place a new #8 fuse(last one) in, and crank it to see.

b) physical damage to the rear o2 sensor. I checked by eye, not lifting the car looks ok. Will have to await until the rain stops. Since I cant start it and drive to a mechanic.

USED MANY FUSES:

Sorry for the delay....if anyone of you is having this issue and have an EVO 9, you should

1. DISCONNECT THE CRANK SENSOR PLUG FOUND BEHIND THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VALVE COVER
2. PLUG A NEW ENGINE FUSE IN
3. PLUG THE CRANK SENSOR BACK IN
4. TRY TO START.

After having my car down for about 3-4 days my friend came by and did this and it cranked with no problem. Made me look stupid...unknown what was the cause but I ended up changing my timing belt and water pump just to make sure. Also had a small non related issue with my starter. Got it cleaned out and it works fine now. SO BEFORE YOU GO CRAZY WITH THE DEALERSHIP try this process first. GOOD LUCK!
