failed gsx pump swap

well i dunno how many people out there have tried swapping out their fuel pump (maybe you turbo guys have) but i just tried to put in a '96 eclipse GSX fuel pump into my '02 lancer. problem being is that the GSX pump is too long. i was hoping that i could follow the mirage guys swap instructions, but it wasnt that simple. turns out that the lancer has a different assembly. instead of have a metal bracket on the bottom to hold up the pump, turns out that its plastic and snaps on, therefore, i wasn't able to drill a new hole or anything of the sort to make room for the GSX pump.

well it seems to be a trend that people around here can't answer most of my questions, but there has to be someone who has some ideas of helping me out here. anybody?

The 2g GS-T pump can definitely be made to fit. It may take a little work, but I believe the GSX would be doable as well with a little modification. I know for a fact that the Walbro pumps can be made to fit and I'm fairly certain they're not smaller than stock.

well i only got 3 hours to spend with it today as the sun was going down. i might spend some more time tomorrow. the only thing i'm worried about if i fabricate something is if the plastic i use won't corrode in the fuel tank. would using metal as something to hold the bottom of the pump be bad? maybe cause an explosion or anything of the sort?

Got rid of the plastic bottom... just used the rubber bumper/vibe isolator. That is all you have to do.

If you do a write up and post it in engine tech I'll copy and close it in the how to forum for browsing only. And of course people can put comments in the engine tech thread.
