My 04 lancer es has 47k miles on it. I just got done driving my moms new 06 Lancer ES and noticed that I can press her clutch pedal down like knife through butter. Is there anyway to make my clutch depress as smooth has hers?

I've read several posts on switching gears, and I've noticed that my moms car shifts into gear so smooth, mine does not go so smooth anymore. I just bought that 2qts of Redline MTL and 1qt MT90 in hopes to solve that, however I don't think it will help with the clutch pedal depress.

I'm not very good with mechanics but I am trying to learn, I'm more of a computer geek, but I'm not afraid to try some simple self-maintainence on my car.

A little background, I bought my car with 15k miles on it. I first learned how to drive stick on it, so at 15k I have had my share of stalls, maybe around 15 so far. Also I've grinded my gears going into 3rd gear maybe about 10 times.

I'm afraid my clutch might be going out... My friend tried that 5th thing to see if car would stall or slip. The car stalled out.

Basically I'm just wondering if someone could guide me on easy things to try so that I can make my clutch pedal go in easier (and not as far down) to shift. I used to be able to press it in no more than an inch to shift, now it's more like 2- 2 1/2 inches.

as the clutch wears, it'll get progressivly stiffer. A new clutch almost always feels better than a clutch with 50k miles on it. The tranny fluid should help out the shifting, but it wont affect your clutch. Honestly, unless the clutch is so stiff that it appears to have a problem with it, dont worrya bout it and chalk it up to typical clutch wear.

Could you be a little more specific? What is new? My mom's car? I know.. However, I do not know that it is normal for it to feel like it does now. I want it to feel like my moms. What could I do to make it soft again?

 

I don't know if lancers have them as my mirage does, but mounted on the firewall, where the clutch line goes through, there's a little steel symmetrical blob that you can lefty loosy or righty tighty to adjust it.

 

check the brake/clutch fluid....it could be low.

 

Is the clutch catching high, as the clutch goes it will get higher, thus causing stalling problems. If you learned to drive on this car, you may have burnt it a little in the beginning, but being that your parent/s appear to drive stick as well, they hopefully taught you correctly. And as stated above, a clutch with 50 k on it is not going to feel like a brand new one. If you are still concerned, post exactly everything that concerns you about the drivability of this car. Then we can get a better idea of what maybe a problem.
