My Lancer hit 900 miles today and just started to get some speed to it.. the manual doesn't say exactly when it starts to break in.. does anyone know? I would think it should have happened already..

 

I beleive in the manual it had a reference to taking it easy for the first 300 miles... I think as a rule of thumb most people choose 1000 miles.... the dealership probably would know more.

 

He said it. 1000 miles is what people set as the benchmark. Lord knows I didn't take the kid gloves off while driving my car until about 2000. Then again, I want my baby to last a while.

 

 

The 2002 Lancer owner's manual lists 300 miles for being the recommended break-in period. During this time, try to avoid running the car above 4000RPM. The manual says it best "modern vehicles do not require extensive break in periods." I would try for at least 500 before you go on any beat runs.

Remember, no fast shifting, 1st and 2nd gear damage is automatically "user error" per Mitsubishi, and not covered by your warranty.
