This thread isnt about the steering wheel being locked. Its about having to turn the car over multiple times because its not firing.

Have not had a problem in over two weeks, in total i had start up problems 3 times within a period of 2 weeks but since then i have had no trouble- just reached a 1000 miles so that might have something to do with it...

For the people having this problem, is the starter engaging (engine crank but wont turn over)?

Its an Intermitent Long Crank with no turn. so my dad teh mechanic calls it. And considering so many are having this problem including myself. Its gotta be a problem with the car... my service rep at the dealer after supposably looking at it and trying for a day said "you just need to hold it longer" that is BS Considering i held it for a good 5 seconds with all crank and no start...

Just a thought. Since fords have unusually loud fuel pumps it is easy to know when it is on. But most other car companies have much quieter ones. Is it possible you people have no fuel pressure because the the fuel pump hasnt had enough time to build pressure. Like you are turning the key all the way to on as soon as you get it in the hole. Turning it to accessory position for a second or two my stop this issue. I just know on my old car if i tried to start it to fast i would have no fuel pressure.

Or my second theory:
It is an issue with the electronic controlled throttle not giving enough gas to the engine? Suggest that to a tech maybe when one of you take the car in to have it checked out. It is a possible TPS malfunction or Air/fuel ratio is to lean to fire the engine up. Im just tossing out assumptions but I know a little bit about fuel systems.

All good assumptions but you know what at the end of the day its an 08 This should not be happening and its sad we cant replicat this problem for the dealer.
But all good assumptions I figured there might be a problem with the Cam Angle sensor. DO these cars have cam angle sensors I figure so there is no Distributor I hope a software upgrade will repair these things.

Duplication is the always the problem...We know we have the problem, but service depts. for one don't truly believe it's a problem and two can't really fix what they don't know is the problem...

Yeah thats BS though, i left my car there for 2 days after it got hit for them to try and replicate the problem.. which shouldnt be too hard if you sit there and turn the car on and off as many times as you have to for it to crank and not start. Thats the only way to duplicate it.

And like i said the fix for it was BS too, "just hold it longer" i should go work as a service writer.

hey guys this happened to me once.. some time ago.. I stated to play with it to see if i could replicated... the only time I did it was when I put the A/C in Auto turned the car off and tryied to turn it back on... I was able to replicated once.. again this happened like a month or two ago... never had any problems since... although I did get into the havit of making sure everything is off before I turn the car on... if I make sense.. hehe.. not sure if it has to do with anything tho..

I only had this problem one time. After signing the papers for my brand new Lancer, I walked outside and got inside my new car. I was very excited because this was my first new car.

Well, It took me about 3 trys to start the car right outside the dealership!!! I held the key the first time for a good 4 seconds, and held it even longer the 2nd time. The 3rd time it fired right up. The Lancer only had about 19 miles at the time....so I just told myself it had something to do with the 4B11's break-in period. I have not had this problem since.

During the hard start-up, it felt like there was no fuel pressure. I really hope this does not happen again, but I do only have 220 miles on the Lancer right now. Even though I was upset over the issue (brand new car, damnit!), it is nice to know that I am not alone on this. Hopefully Mitsubishi will learn of this soon, and look into the problem.

Re-call anyone?
