I have a few questions if anyone can help.

1. Does anyone know where i can get the best price on Oxygen sensors i might need both and the dealer wants to charge me 230 for each?


2. Anyone know how i would go about getting to the one thats located under the car by the gas tank?.


3. Checkers carries the oxygen sensors and they have "Universal" oxygen sensors do you think these can be or are as good as the ones from the dealer?

From what I've heard, the universals work fine. You cut off your old plug end and solder it on the new universal.

Bosch supposedly makes the OEM found in your car. So I ended up purchasing a Bosch from http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/ today. It was $68 for the front one. I haven't received it yet, so I can't say 100% how it works. They claim to have a money back guarantee... we'll see!

 

wats the point, get one that is OE fit. that way its plug and play... costs extra but i'd rather not be splicing wires , and runnin the risk of messing things up. check ebay , i got mine for 100 bux (plug n play) made by walker.

 

Get universal unless you are rich or get a STEAL on a direct fit. I got universal for like 50 or 60 dollars, took me 5 minutes to wire it up and then just screw it in. Just make sure you electrical tape like its the end of the world around the connectors. I individually taped each wire to wire then taped the whole bundle so they don't move around. There is no guess work just matching color to color

 

Just letting you guys know the bosch w/ plug for $70 got here the very next day after ordering and worked just fine. (This was the first o2 sensor)

First oxygen sensor - in header at front of car
Second oxygen sensor - in catalytic converter, under the car (roughly at the front row of seats).

I am not aware of any other O2 sensors, especially near the gas tank.

 

Heh probably just means under the car... :-/... I guess :-?

If you do you can get one from autopartswarehouse.com... just make sure it says "After catalytic". That is the 2nd one.

i just bought a Bosch one for $68. it already has the plug so there is no splicing needed.
i got it from one of those generic car parts websites

 

Most likely it would just be your front o2 that went bad i would think. Buy the front one and see if that fixes the problem first.

 

First off, get the CEL read at an Autozone or Advance (or insert your local store here) and find out the code. The dealership might be screwing you over.

Or are they changing them because your car is 6 years old and they think it's routine maintenance?

 

Is it hard to change these yourself? Tools needed etc.?

 

First is easy, Second can be a little tough since it's on the pipe after the cat and gets hot.

 

Sorry to bring this old thread back to life, but im having similar issues, just not exactly ;-). My 02 Lancer OZ Rally has an aftermarket exhaust that came with the car, im ripping all of it out and replacing it with bolts ons. The only thing thats bothering me is that the o2 sensor under my car is BEFORE the cat, not after. This is what came with the car when i purchased it, my car is a theft recovery and i can tell its been rebuilt, the exhaust header is all rusted like it sat in a junkyard for 16 years. and the whole exhaust system after the down pipe is all welded together instead of bolts/gaskets.

I just purchased new header w/ downpipe, new catalytic converter and catback, but there are 3 holes for o2 sensors.

1st is the exhaust header
2nd is just before the cat on the downpipe
3rd is just after the cat

The parts do come with plugs tho in case the o2 sensors are not needed, etc. Im just wondering what exactly i do need.

Is it OK to install the new o2 sensor before the catalytic converter? or better to install it after the cat?

 

I believe the sensors should be on the header and before/on the catalytic converter. Thats how it is for my car.
