So i was driving my Gt-S on the highway heading to the beach.. clear sunny day.. n i decide to drive in manual tip mode thing.. ive drivin manual before btw.. in this car too... so im switchin into 6th gear at 125km/hr (78miles/hr~i believe) at about 4,500 rpm... n i start hearing this weird noise.. i had no idea what it was it sounded like it was coming from the sunroof maybe(it was closed).. thats wut my gf said.. i thought it might be the road.. so i slow down n switched into 5 th no noise there even when i reved up to 5,000 then i switched again got up to about 4,500 n this weird noise again.. it didnt sound good.. the cars engine sounded quiet. has any1 expercienced this problem...?

6spd in Man mode for the CVT

 

Okay so i took some friends three of em.. and they all heard it to near the back driver side.. my friend said must be something looose.. it was a weird shreek.. as if somethin was gonna rip off.. so this was in 6th gear at 130 km/hr around 4,500 rpm... so its not the engine he said.. asked me if the window was open i pulled up both windows all the way even though my friend in the back said they were up.. and tryed it again.. same noise this time.. then i tryed to prove that it was 6th gear so i switched up only up to 5th gear.. n let the km/hr move up to 160km/hr and no problems no noise no NOTHING
Now im a 100% sure its 6th gear... i jus have no idea wut it exactly although the noise come from the back drivers side
some1 plz try it out.. if you can 6th gear about 4,000 rpm or 4,500 n at 125km'hr(78miles/hr) to 135km/hr(84miles/hr) the engine is super quiet at this point yet a weird screeching noise comes thru

 

sounds like a vibration from the trans being transmitted through the body/subframe of the car

go to dealership, take service manager or shop foreman out for a drive and do exactly what you are telling us... don't just tell them and hope they find it

 

dammit another ride to Vancouver. last time i said i better not come back here again if you forgot something! cuz they put on my protection plan.. im so mad..:@.. oh well i have to take my dad anywayz to sign some papers.. Im definetly gonna demand now...!

 

yeah I'm usually the one on the other end of stuff liek this (was a tech for a dealership.. I moved to an independant shop almost 2 months ago)

it's not always a fun thing.. but this is what warranties are for.. and considering this is a brand new model year for the lancer.. I think we're gonna see alot of "what the hell is it's problem now???" threads

 

um i drive a 08 lancer gts. standard. theres only 5. plz enlighten me with ur whereabouts of the 6th gear.

 

Same thing happens in my car, its definitly something loose. I always comes from right behind me, likes its the sunroof like you said. It definitly pisses me off; I'm gonna have to ask the dealership about it

 

^^i'll enlighten you with the fact that CVT is 6-speed whereas manual is 5-speed.

 

I've experienced that high pitch squeal, but I have a 5spd Manual. Discovered it when I was going a bit fast and pushing wind on a trip through the flat lands. It only happened when I went over a certain speed and I only noticed it the one day. It was determined that the wind was hitting the sunroof (Sunroof was closed at the time) and making a awful noise. Might be what you noticed. I would get the seal checked on your sunroof if it continues to be a problem. Like I said, only happened once when I was pushing wind.

 

hmm does this 6th speed makes the gts go any faster?

 

no, it just lessen the stress on the trans. old mustangs were 4 speed and were fast as heck. 6 speed CVT and 5 speed manual are 2 different things.... now... 5 speed manual and 6 speed manual... then u can compare.
