Ok...maybe about three days after my 1200 mile road trip when I go to crank my car it starts slow.
Its not quite dead battery no responce/slow but it has slowed down and acts like it doesn't want to start. Now when it starts and I drive for a while turn it off and go to turn it over again it cranks just fine. The battery light is not on so I don't think there is a problem with the charging system...
we have had high heat here for the past few days. (Temps around 101-105)
Here is the thing...I checked my battery and it looked like it had a little corrosion on the negative termanal so I took it off, cleaned it off and couldn't of had it off more than five minutes. I start my car and the RPMs jump immediatly to 3500! Like the ECU was reset. Keep in mind it should take around 10-15 for the ECU to reset. I'm pretty sure my ECU was reset.
I check the little window thing on my battery and it looks fine. This is the OEM battery. Could it just be time for a new battery? I could buy a voltage meter but I decided to ask before I made that purchase.
Thanks guys for any help!

Oh, I hear that! The weather here has been horrible; good thing I recharged the air in the Lancer before summer! LOL
So the problem isn't that it's not starting, it's just starting more slowly than in the past? Could be the original battery (btw, I still have my original batt ['03 w/ 82k]); but could also very well be this crankshaft position sensor problem more and more seem to be cropping up. What seems to happen that the sensor and the metal plates that rotate in relation to the crankshaft get dirty/greasy...thus causing bad/false readings and increasing the likelihood of a prolonged start.
If I remembered how far Aiken was from G'ville, I'd say just stop by...but whatever.

Take your battery to Autozone to get it checked. They'll tell you in seconds whether or not the battery is bad. You may want to also check all the grounding points in the engine bay for corrosion or rust and clean them off. Also check your starter solenoid wire for corrosion.
If it's still original. Replace it. Your lucky you lasted this long on the original one.
Batteries are a hit or miss. They could last 10 years and not have a single symptom.
But if they're 4yrs old. I just replace it. Peace of mind so I won't be looking for a jump in the middle of nowhere.
