Having major electrical problem

so basically make a long story short, I took out my head unit yesterday (pioneer D3) to realign it since I've been meaning to do it for the longest time. Took care of that and flash forward to today. I was driving when my radio started resetting itself every couple mins so I thought to myself great I must have loosen a wire connection or something behind the radio. Well I get home take it out make sure everything is good and then when I go to turn off my car, I hear the motor turn off but I also hear a wierd sound coming from the engine bay kinda like a spark. So i thought wtf and when I tried to turn the car back on, thats when the car was dead.

Now I have a mini battery setup so before i get flamed for it, I have had it for months and 0 problems, even last week I left my car outside in the freezing temps and 0 problems. So now I figured my battery was dead and that was causing it so I jumped the car and car starts back up. However, the car has very little electrical power while on. If i turn the headlights on, everything electrical will flicker and reset and the motor barely stays on before recovering. It seems like the alternator isn't charging the battery at all. So i tested the alternator to see if it was bad by taking the negative off the battery and the car stayed on so I assume the alternator is good right?

Next I take my mini battery out and put my friends stock battery in and same thing car is dead won't crank lights don't turn on nothing not even clicking sounds from the starter. so i put his battery back in his car thinking his battery is dead too BUT to my surprise when i turned on his headlights they came on and they were bright so I thought wtf I got back in and tried to start his car and it did in fact start fine. So even with a good battery my car still is dead? what the hell can it be? Did i short circuit something?

Double and triple check your connections at the battery. Maybe you have some slight corrosion, dirt, or grease, causing a bad connection? I know it sounds funny but in my time with cars those connections at the battery have caused most of the battery/starting problems that I've delt with. I've had them look just fine but for whatever reason they didn't make good contact. I'd consider just totally redoing those connections just to be sure. It's somewhere to start anyway. Get the easy stuff out of the way. Since you did just replace your battery it's a possibility. A bad connection there would account for most of your symptoms except the radio thing.

With that radio thing happening I have to think you disturbed something while you were back there.

Have you seen this thread?... Another possibility for you to check out.
