Service Engine Light
Be it unknown to myself, while letting my brother use my car, he ran it out of gas (completley) and he said when the car stalled, the Service Engine Soon Light came on. Now I have put gasoline in the car and yet the light is still on. I was wondering if anyone knew why this is or what made it came on.
If it does not go away after a little more driving, I will disco the batt and let it reset. If it comes back then I guess Ill take it to the dealer. At this point though, I am more curious as to why it came on.
Thanks

i doubt it.
ECUs always store information through battery changes, they'd have to make it delete that information on purpose and i cant think of any reason why they would do that.

Update: I got my hands on a scanner, and the service engine light is not the same as the check engine light (which in our car is an outline of an engine). Therefore as far as universal code readers, it does not pick up a code. I pulled the neg cable and left it off for about 2 mins. I put it back on and the light was still there as well as all of my settings on my nav/audio, etc. So i pulled it a second time and left it off for about 15 mins. This time, all of the nav/audio info reset as well as some strange reboot screen on the nav that I have never seen before, however the code WAS STILL THERE! Well after about 15 mins of driving, the light went out and has not returned.

Might have been some air in the system because of running out of gas. Kick your brother in the nads and never loan him the car again.
As for the SEL and CEL, I remember Rob from RRM talking about how the 2008 was on the CAN BUS protocol instead of OBD-II. Maybe that means we need a whole different scanner?

lol I am not drunk damn it only tipsy.
When Disconnecting the battery
I meant pumping the brakes until you use up all the hydrolic power in the power brakes.
Keep the headlights on and wait for them to bleed out completely

OK, but why would you do this? Are you trying to say it's the only way to TRULY reset the system or something? That we have to drain the car until there's not a single ion of electricity in it?
