Angry First Gear Slipping!!!

Ok, so last night driving home from work, my car seemed to be driving its normal way. I wasn't beating on it or anything, especially since the ground was wet. When I pulled up to my first stop light (off the highway btw) I went to put my gear into first to take off, and it popped out of gear. I tried about another 2-3 times and then it finally worked. I didn't pay any mind to it really, since it didn't do it again. About 2 hours later, after I left my gf's house, I had the same problem, and it wouldn't work at all that time, so I had to take off everytime in 2nd gear. I didn't really drive my car today, only at night when I went out to dinner, and still the same thing is happening. I asked my dad (who is a certified auto mechanic) what he thought and he told me it could only be one thing: My transmission is going . Not even a year old yet, and my transmission is going!? I just hit 10k miles this past week, and when I went to the dealer on tuesday, they said my car was doing just fine (I went in because of the sticky 1st/2nd gear problem). Anyone know anything of what it could be? Would the tranny be covered in the warranty? What should I do? Has anyone else had this problem? Am I the only one?

the shift rail detents are worn or the spring is broken thus not holding it in gear. Or the teeth on the synchros in first are worn and not holding it in gear.

Question, do you have some big heavy shift knob attached?

Question, will it stay in gear if you hold the shifter in place?

And hell yeah the transmission is covered under warranty....10 years!

I had a different shift knob (lighter), but i put the stock one back on a while back. And no it won't stay in gear. If i hold it in place the gear will just grind like crazy until I put it in neutral. And good to hear, cuz I'm taking a trip to Mitsu this tuesday

when putting it in gear you know there are two "stages" when selecting a gear. The first bit you push in starts engaging the synchros, and the second bit locks the synchros to the gear. Its almost like pushing it a little bit and then it pops in a bit more. Sometimes the gears aren't lined up and you have to either let you car roll a tiny bit or let out the clutch, then back in again and try.

Not saying you don't know how to drive standard, I am sure you do. But what it sounds like is you are only 1/2 way into the gear and then when you let out the clutch it will grind. (Done it before myself by mistake) :P Check that out and if not then take it to the dealer.

I don't think that's what it is. I mean, I've had my car for almost a year, and only now have I had that problem. I mean, it does go into gear like 1 out of 10 tries lol. I'd rather just take it to the dealer, and let them worry about it. They can't say it's nothing, because it obviously is something

I really would appreciate if the persons who start a thread about a car problem, get back to the thread and update us with info about the problem and how it was fixed.
