Not that many problems?
Not that many problems?
Hi All,
I have been reading all the threads about problems from here and other Lancer related forums.....and it is somewhat worrying me.
However, aside from experiencing the no-start issue once or twice, I have not really noticed any other problems at all (touch-wood). Therefore, I am starting this thread to see how many people are still okay with their Lancers... We have to be positive right?
I have a Lancer GTS, bought in November with 3 Km on it (when I first saw it) and 18 Km when pick-up.....so far its been running GREAT!
MODS: Please move the thread if it is in the wrong section!

eh... there IS such a thing as too much information. Sometimes ignorance IS bliss. When I first started reading about all the different issues that people were/are having with their '08 Lancers I started to worry about making the right choice with my car and whether or not I would start having major issues.
If I hadn't read any of the issues, I would have just taken my car to get serviced for the issues I experience as they happen, and I wouldn't have given it a second thought. Things to remember, this is an all new lancer from the chassis to the engine to the interior so there will be some issues/kinks to iron out. It's the price we pay for being "early adopters". So expect some issues to pop up, but enjoy your purchase in the mean time.
So, basically, read about the issues, but don't really "worry" about them. Enjoy your car, but keep half an eye out for the issues you know about and have you car serviced when you experience them.

Ive had the no-start thing happen a few times (once when I stalled it)... my stereo stopped working once, so I brought it in.... and the gas gauge sucks, but other then that I LOVE MY CAR! No other problems as of yet. knock on wood!
well mine kinda like really choked once starting up but other than that i really have had any problems..ive had mine about a month..maybe they make them better than the first batch that went out?
the biggest issue that ive heard about the 08 lancers and mitsubishis in general is the paint job..that its a ****ty paint job..i myself have a few light scratches that came from god knows where.. i never park around people so i dont know

I totally love my car, and I am just keeping my eye out for potential issues. ....
I completely understand that it is a totally new car and problems will be expected and corrected as Mit has discovered them.
I have put, between my girlfriend and I, almost 15000 km (almost 10K Miles) on it since November so we have definitely put it to its paces, and so far it has been great!

I love my Lancer too. I've had the no start thing a few times, but no issues other than that. I also found the stock tires sufficient for winter (obv, I drove slow and stuff too and most of the streets I used were major streets that get plowed fairly quickly). I haven't come across any pulling or stereo issues (don't use radio much). And I have about 15k km on it now.

with 16000Kms on my car the sound system is starting to rattle everything. I found one big one, the plastic cover behind the back seat head rests, but don't know of the others yet. One thing at a time.
Got my 09 GTS last Friday. So far so good.
Just a bit worry at 1st on the start as it's not that instant as I was expected for a new car. But after reading this thread, I think it's mainly our Canadian weather.

**** the 2008 Lancer and Mitsubishi...
16000 miles on the car. ****load of rattles everywhere on the car, front, rear, everywhere. The exterior paint is so cheap, scratches easily. Problems with the Audio cutting out. Cheap interior. Carbon Fiber fading. Lug Nuts rusting. Mitsubishi gave a lot for your money...too bad everything they put in the car was cheap as **** and their service is terrible.
And note, I baby my car.

Little to no problems
I've been reading about all these problems on here and its been making me mad paranoid about my car. I've been keepin an ear out all the time for any rising issues, been payin attention to my steering feed back to notice any pulling problems. I even check the paint almost daily, and there arn't any chips or flakes. The only problem I have had so far was the cranking issue, which was the easiest thing to fix. Printed out the TSB from here, brought it the dealer, and showed it to them. Without having to do a diagnostic, they ordered the parts, called me a week later and installed them in under half an hour.
And its not like I baby my car that much. I have 17000 miles on it so far, and I would say the majority of it is driving around town and the back roads, gunning it through almost every turn. Going at night, I usually cover a trip that should take about 50 min in about 30 min. The entire trip is uneven terrain that beats pretty hard on the shocks. I've def caught air on more than one occasion on these roads. I've had the radio at the 45 mark for 2 hour trips in the middle of the night to keep me awake. I mean there isn't a lot that I havn't put my car through in the last year. Even in the snow, I was more than surprised at how well it could handle (other than stopping) with the stock tires. Pretty much the only thing I don't do is rev past 5500.
Ohh, and I have been teaching my girlfriend and my 16 year old brother how to drive on my car. Which isn't the kindest thing you could do to any standard car.
All in all I am very satisfied with this car and the way it preforms. The only thing I think
should have done as far as performance is make the Lancer GTS a RWD. That would have made this car best in class in my mind
