I should have all the tools i need. I have my BS in EE and iv learned how to make harnesses and BNC cables. I'm actually gonna look into making a bypass harness for HIDs so that it all works off of the light switch, and I wanted to include this mod too as long as it doesnt mean cutting up all these separate harnesses.

What did you use for a toggle switch? I wanted to see if i could find one of the switches from the evo or ra that go on the left of the steering column in those blank spots, but i'm not sure where to look for one.

aftermarket headunits and stock head units would be VERY different.

Making an aftermarket one is quite easy, I highly doubt it is anywhere short of changing the code in the stock one.

A "How To" on the Extron BNC for the GPS would be a real nice thing to do. I could do it but an example would be nice before I start.

My advice would be to go to radio shack and pick up a premade bnc cable. They run pretty cheap like 5 to 10 dollars. This is convenient because you wont have to deal with actually wiring to the BNC. The cable is usually just a twisted pair, or just a side by side. You could then just cut it in the middle, run some wire to where u place the switch, and wire a double pole switch in line. This could become even more convenient if you can get a cable that has a female end on one side and a male side on the other.

So once you have this made, you could just unplug the existing GPS bnc connector, connect it to one side of your cable that you made, and then plug the other end into the MMCS.

If you want me draw out what I'm talking about let me know.

Evo8rob, that link that I posted on April 1 the item has ended so the link won't work. But there is a new post from someone else that cost much more. This guy wants $35 and would one take 10 min to do get it done. Hmmmm, wonder how this is guy doing the mod? The item will end in 4 days so the link should not work after the auction ends. But you guys can just go to eBay and do a search for 2008 Lancer and take a look at what’s available. I sure hope someone find out how to do this mod.

I've done it but I have the right tools. I used extron BNC's on the mini-coax to disconnect it. this could be a very expensive mod if you mess it up.
Considered doing a write up?

Let me drop the knowledge on you kids.

At this point, as far as we know, you have to cut the grean with pink and the GPS cable. The GPS is supposedly mini coax. The termination on the GPS is not a standard plug, BNC connection.

What we need is confirmation that the GPS wire IS mini Coax. We need someone who has or is willing to cut the green with pink and unplug the gps, insert a dvd and drive around for the day to make sure this approach will work. If successful we can then proceed on a How To for cutting the GPS, creating the proper termination / switch, attaching the OEM connector and hooking everything back up.

So, lets start with problem number one. Who is gonna cut the green and pink, unplug the GPS and test the results?

Thanks again guys!!! I haven't had any luck on my side. Scott seems to be on the right track and HDstig has it, but Like he said I'm not willing or knowledgeable enough to have to pay to fix it. I didn't think it was really that complex of an issue. WoW was I wrong!!! Keep up the good work guys. This is truly a wonderful an informative site.

Heh,
Just so you guys know, I took the time to message a couple of the winning bidders on eBay about the bypass and here's what I got:

"About your question for bypass lancer 2008. I did last weekend and it did not work as said. The image keep falling out every 40 seconds. You must reset it again with an on/off switch. The only way i put to work was to take also the gps cable out. then it worked perfectly. So it does not really work as said."

What a scam... I would def. file a complaint with eBay, but good luck. Just thought I'd share the news.

you guys need to read this thread.... i have done a tonne of reserch on this. Now i have a MMCS in my Canadian EVO X this thread is a long one but the posts by RDENIS are a must reed. Here is what he says on the dvd while driving.

The speed sensor wire is terminal 13 on C-10 (red/green wire). But you can't just disconnect it because the system also uses the GPS to determine speed. You can watch a DVD at any speed by disconnecting the speed sensor wire AND unplugging the GPS antennae but then:

a) Nav system is f*cked
b) Mileage calcs, etc. are f*cked
c) Speed calcs, etc.are f*cked
However, at least you can watch a movie while driving around in circles completely lost!
