gas mileage after fuel indicator flashes?

Sorry if this has been asked before...I'm a total noob haha

Does anyone know how many miles we can drive our Lancers before the car will actually run out of gas?

I've noticed that if I drive about 5 miles after it starts flashing the car fills up about 13 gallons.....could we really go another 50 miles before the car is out of gas?

I tried to look in the owner's manual but didnt find anything

and yeah I know I should fill up before then, but I was just curious!

Thanks

Well, I get pretty poor milage in my GTS CVT 18.5 mpg on a good tank but I would feel safe driving another 40 miles after the indicator comes on for the 1st time. There are actually 3 levels that the indicator gives.

The 1st is just a single chime and the indicator display stays the usual orangish-red. There is also a general warning symbol at the top of the display

The 2nd is where it turns to a sort of amber-orange and the odometer is no longer displayed.

The 3rd is basically the same as the second but there is an additional, more urgent chime and the gas pump icon flashes increasingly faster.

I've not run out of gas with this car but I have kinda pushed in the 3rd level of warning and gotten close to 16 gallons in the tank at that fill up.

Just curious what kind of gas mileage you are getting?

Hope this helps,
Mike

I also have a CVT. I have filled the car up 4 times so far in my 6 weeks of owning it. On the first three tanks I am averaging about 25.5 mpg with about 90% of my mileage being highway driving. I usually fill up at the 325 mile mark. I have got the flashing red warning, but never an orange/amber colored one...I also dont know if I ever got a chime...but I also noticed that I dont get a chime if I take my seat belt off while driving either...kinda weird.

On this current tank I have done A LOT of highway driving. I am currently at 330 miles and my trip computer tells me I have 60 miles left until empty. I am guessing I will have to fill up around 360 miles though, which will be my best tank yet.

Today I drove 85 miles, and probably 75 of them were HWY....I got 30.2 mpg today

I also have noticed myself watching the nav system and adjusting how much gas I am giving the car to try to up my mileage haha

Do you drive with a "lead foot" or almost all city driving? Your mileage seems kind of low ...Also what gas do you use? I use regular unleaded from 76

Hope this helps!

My driving is usually a fairly even mix of city and highway. Even when it has been all highway I haven't gotten mileage as good as yours.

I generally don't drive hard at all but of course I do "enjoy" the car a bit sometimes but not near enough to make a difference. Actually, I made a point of not to get it up above 3000 rpm for the 1st 1500 miles. I really babied it. I now have a little over 5000 miles on the odo with no mileage improvement. My dealer says that I am getting what is expected as far as fuel economy goes but I think it is time to head in for a checkup.

I always use Exxon regular unleaded. I never have gotten more than 265 miles from a full tank except for one trip that was all highway and then I only got 325 from a tank.

I noticed after 15000 kms or I guess approx 10000 miles. that the fuel economy goes up...I get 525 kms per 47 litres. I am too tired to convert.... its a cheap car compared to most...and its not completely gutless!

I have the 5spd so I don't know how much of a difference it will make, but supposedly the CVT is suppose to do better. The last 2 tanks I filled up I got 27.5 mpg...calculated using miles driven and gas filled up. I have noticed that the efficiency has gone up, and I don't baby the accelerator that much, especially pulling out of turns in the middle of the night :-D

The most I have gotten on a tank was 406, and i filled up with about 14 gallons. But the last 40 miles or so, I was upshifting at 2500 instead of my usual 3500-4000 to try to conserve what was remaining in the tank. I have noticed that cruising just before the MIVEC kicks in is about the best I can do for efficiency. So I usually sit my RPMs at about 3250 or so when im just cruisin around.

Hope this helps.

I'd say my car is usually at about 2250 RPM's because thats where it is when I do all my highway driving from 55-65 mph

Best to figure you have 3 gallons when it first chimes, 2 gallons when it goes to the more urgent red screen.

Figure your usual gas mileage and estimate from there. Works for me...

I read somewhere, i think in the manual that there is a 1.4 gallon reserve. I dont know which warning indicates that you are down to the reserve. I have driven 20 miles on the warning and had no problems so... I would figure it to be 1.4 gallons after the first warning to be safe.

K thanks...i tried to skim the manual for a reserve number but I wasnt finding anything so that's why I asked on here.....so yeah 20-25 miles is probably possible but I probably shouldnt stretch it past that haha

eh... I don't think I've every driven my car until the gas indicator "chimed". I read in the manual that your "Available Range" estimate stop displaying if it drops below 30 miles. I've only hit that once. I usually fill up when I'm between 1/8 and 1/4 tank left in the car. The most I've ever put in is 13gallons.

Well, when the gas light came on, I made 70km, and still had 6Liter , so I'm pretty sure you can expect a 100km (or 60miles) when it first flash.
