Bogging and cylinder misfires in 2002 ES
I've been getting some power-loss, bogging, and cylinder misfires if I try to accelerate faster than grandma-pace when my RPMs are lower than 2-2.2k in my manual 2002 ES. I've replaced the sparkplugs with Bosch ones, but that didn't seem to solve the problem. Besides replacing the fuel filter and spark plug wires, would you guys suggest checking anything else out?
I put in a K&N SRI, but this issue was occurring even before then. I was hoping that the increased airflow might help with the problem, but it hasn't done anything. Besides that, it doesn't have any mods.
i think it might be a good idea to clean up all electrical contacts (battery terminals, all grounding points, ect.) then change to ngk spark plugs(bkr6es is the model i think but just make sure you get the ones that end in es) and make sure they are gapped correctly, replace your 2 spark plug wires also, then go ahead and change the fuel filter, if it still has problems after that you can try changing the fuel pump(maybe its not getting enough fuel). could also just be a bad tank of gas. how about trying to change your oil out to some fresh 5w30 and see if that helps any. there is many many things you can try for that issue. basically start with doing a tune-up and go from there...
I had the same problem
I had the exact same problem in my '02. Tried changing the spark plugs a few times, some other crap the dealer tried to do. Finally I just ordered both ignition coils, swapped 'em out, and the problem was solved.

old plug wires (cracked boots)could leak water into where the spark plugs go and that water could cause it. it happened on a crx of my brothers and it was shooting flames out of the exhaust because of unburnt gas it could spark on but 2 of the cylinders.

But ya. start with puttin in FACTORY NGK plugs, gapped to .39-.43.
Some reason, ive heard our cars dont like bosch
I think I may have figured out the problem. The car accelerates fine after replacing the spark plugs and cleaning the contacts, but here's the deal:
When I pulled out the Bosch plugs that I put in only a month or so ago, they looked a little more worn than they should have. I inspected them a little more, and realized that they looked oil-fouled. Interestingly enough, the Bosch plugs worked fine for the first week or so, and then the same problem stated happening. Using this information, I've come to the conclusion that I'm overfilling my engine oil. Some people say use 5 quarts, some say use 4 quarts. I'm going to change my oil level to 4 quarts and see if it begins to stall in a week or two.

5 quarts is definitely too much.
when i had a misfire problem it turned out to be a clogged injector. i had to remove the fuel rail and clean the injectors. it's a good idea to run a bottle of fuel injector cleaner once in awhile to prevent that kind of issue.
