Car running badly (02 Lancer OZ)

Well. My car started running bad about a week ago. If I drive it easy (shift around 3000-3500 RPM) the car will shutter after shifting and RPM's drop to 2000-2500. If I'm romping on it, no problems. THe check engine light finally came on, so I took it to the dealer. They said it came back with a Misfire Code. They reset the ECU and test drove it, no problems. Going back to work, it did it again, no Check Engine light, but really shuttered. ANy ideas? I've got a feeling it is the MAF sensor (which wont be covered since I have CAI on it).

check for air leaks in your intake system. exact same thing happened to me and i looke at my sri and there was a tiny little gap between two of the tubes. i have an auto and it caused the car to stall! also really low rpms, rough idle, very unpredictable idle rpms: 600-1500. got one of those screw type hose clamps and every single problem went away. i did have to reset the ecu after i fixed it tho. let me know if you need more help or if you fix it.

Check your spark plugs as well. Should only take 5-10 minutes to pop em out and take a look. The code didn't come back because the ECU was probably trying to adjust/accomodate the problem. CEL's done just pop quickly all the time. If you have damaged plugs, a damaged coil pack or wire, or something else wrong with your ignition system, it may not trip the CEL immediately.

Thanks to both of you. I will check both. I was thinking plugs as well. What plugs does everyone use?

I was running Denso Iridiums, but my plugs were fouled from running so rich. I forgot what Mark at BM dropped in their when he was playing with the EMS.

The Denso Iridiums are IK16's FWIW.

I can get you Denso or NGK. The NGK iridium # is IFR5E-11. I run IFR6E-11 . It is 1 stage cooler than stock. I had misfiring issues also. They went away with plug replacement. I also have some 8mm and 8.5 mm Magnecor plug wires.
