No spark/no fuel to engine?
2002 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Racing Rally Ed. (25,000 mi)
I drove the car home one night parked it got up the next morning for work & it wouldn't start. Friend came over and told me it was a fuel pump - bought a fuel pump replaced it car still didn't start... had another friend come over and tell me that there was no spark or gas getting to the engine so the mechanic at my friends work said to turn the key and see if the check engine light would turn on and it didn't and he told me that it was something electrical or something to do with the computer...
Does everyone agree with this or does anyone have any other ideas & where should I start to try and find out what the problem is exactly?

the ECU is the car's computer, you can reset it by disconnecting the battery for 10-15 mins.
does everything else electrical work? if it doesn't that could explain why the fuel pump doesn't kick on and why there is no spark.

I unhooked the battery for at least a half an hour and the car still didn't start but it is making a slightly different noise now, a friend said to touch the 2 terminals together for 30 seconds he said that's how you reset the ecu on hyundai's but I didn't try it because I didn't know if it would do anything to the car... when I turn the key the check engine light still isn't on... still looking for anything possible that may be wrong? Any suggestions?!

you might have a bad crankshaft position sensor. if so it wont be able to see the engine turning over so it wont inject fuel or fire the plugs. its located on the passenger side near the crank.
the best next route.I did try to pull any codes with a scanner, but
it does not read for reason. As if theres nothing there. All electrical
works,and battery is new,new plugs,new fuel pump.Im not getting
any spark, and to think of it...I havent checked the coils to see if
they are seeing any power.Im going to go do that right now.
hello, im having a similar issue, obII wont connect to ecu, car cranks but wont fire up, when i put my key on the on position all the indicator comes on except for the check engine light, already change crank sensor no luck, so my advice is dont change any sensor if u have no codes, im not getting any spark, leaning towards ecu too but not sure until i get more info, i feel ur pain, will good luck lancer fellows

If the OBD II scanner doesn't communicate with the scanner, check to see if you have any blown fuses. Usually the car lighter usually controls the power that sends the signal back to the scanner.
I just had this problem...turns out the wire from the coil of the MFI relay to the ECU was broken somewhere inside the harness, ran a new wire, and it's good to go. If you jump the switching side of the MFI relay and are able to start the engine, then that's likely the problem...if not, the ECU could be bad...I bought a new ECU myself thinking that was the problem at first.
