2009 lancer start problem

Hey everyone, first time posting however have read the forums for a while..

got a 09 lancer about month ago with about 820 miles on it and 2 times, once a week ago and once today it didnt want to start on the first try ...each time it started on the 2nd try normal. Tryed searching on the forums for 09 start issues and only found the 08 issue, I would like to know if anyone has had problems like this before..other than this i havent felt any other problems with the car, runs great, I am thinking about bringing it in to the dealer just to see if they can find anything wrong but dont want to waste time if i dont have to...

It happend to me once. I turned the ignition and all I hear was the starter. I turned it again and this time I gave it some gas and car stared. It only happend to me once. If it keeps happening to ya then you might want to have it checked.

i would take it in. There shouldn't be any reason that it wouldn't start the first time since it is a BRAND NEW car. I'd be a little upset about it. Just make sure you can replicate the problem for the dealership, otherwise they'll just send you home saying there's nothing wrong with the car.

Argee, plan to take it in the next few days, however since this has only happaned 2 times i am sure getting this to happan on que will be a problem.

But because this is happaning during start up that would lower the search area..

i am a bit freaked out since my first car a nissan sentra 100k miles did the same thing before dieing alltogether, however the lancer acts just fine, runs good, sounds good, just drawing a blank...

mine didn't start because of gas and it was a on a slight incline. that could have been the problem.

Check the battery. If there is any corrosion that could be the problem or maybe 1 of the terminals are loose

Not the case here. If you hear the starter engaging, and the car is attempting to start, the battery is fine.

The 08+ Lancers have ETC (Electronic Throttle Control) systems. The problem with the 08 lancer starting issue is that the throttle plate is not allowing the correct amount of airflow during start-up.

2009 Lancer's built prior to 2/26/2008 will also have this problem. It is a simple software issue, and the dealer needs to reflash the ECU to fix the problem.

Hope this helps! Good luck

where exactly can you find the build date of your car? I just traded in my 04 crossfire because of a similar issue. I don't want yet another "no start" issue car. thanks

Actually many many people have had this issue with the new lancers, but its not that big of a deal. There is a simple fix which requires a reflash of the ECU.

I bought my 09 Lancer GTS back at the end of March, and I have had this happen to me a total of four times. The last time it happened was about 3 weeks ago. I have ZERO other problems with it and it's got nearly 4k miles on it now.

I also have a friend that has the base model lancer with the CVT and she has the exact same issue, but it's only happened a couple of times.

The first time it happened to me the car was in my garage, it was about 50 degrees outside, and the car absolutely refused to start even after a couple tries. I turned it all the way off, waited 30 seconds, and tried again. No problems. I figured I'd wait awhile until more people complained before I'd take it into the dealer and have them fix it. This is exactly what I was waiting for!

I love the internet!
