Hey guys, I have an 03 lancer oz and i'm starting to get annoyed with the sound I'm getting when I start the car in the morning. My car pretty much sounds like a diesel engine during cold starts. I've been doing some reading and I'm thinking that I have a bad lifter. I tried a few different things like changing the oil and getting an engine flush but the noise is still there. I can also hear the noise when I'm accelerating as well. I think the next step is to just have the lifters replaced. I'm kinda looking for a ballpark figure on how much it's going to cost for parts/labour. Anybody had this done before? Any info would be appreciated.

everyone has the lifter click in the Lancers. if you replace them youll have the same click. its just the way the motor is put together.

 

i know there is lifter tick but when I put my car into gear after it's been siting it sounds like a diesel engine. When I give the car gas I hear a continuous kind of flapping sound and it's only when I give it gas. The car runs and drives fine but the noise is getting pretty unbearable.

 

How many miles on the car?
Did you buy it used?
Could the previous owner have neglected it?

 

I bought it used with 130,000kms on it. I got all the service records with the car and it looked to me like they did all the necessary work when it was required.
