Lifter problems after cam install

I have a loud tapping noise coming from the engine, my car sounds almost like a diesel engine. The only thing I can think of is the lifters, because the noise came a week later after my cam install. I bought a set of 3rd generation lifters and those will be installed on Monday...I will tell you guys how it goes. Does anyone still drive around with lifter noise problems?

I have the noise when its cold out, or when I change my oil for the first 100 miles or so. I have used a 3rd gen set and they seem to be the quietest, just make sure they have the 3mm hole on top.

Why not go with solid lifters? No tapping noise, but I have no idea on the drawbacks/cons of using them.

I have had lifter noise for quite some time. Only on startup though. I am sure it is because the lifters weren't properly bled.

who did your cam install? they mostly likely didn't bleed the lifters. the tapping noise should only last about 10 minutes after the cam install.

He let the car idle for awhile and driven it before I receive the car. I didn't hear the noise until a week later.

he most likely did not bleed the lifters correctly and messed them up. lifters just don't break after a cam install because they want to.

All of them that I have seen for a 4G63 were a PITA to adjust and needed to be readjusted far to often.

man, ive done about 10 cam installs. My car was the first. Never knew about bleeding the slack adjusters and mine does not tick. Then i found out about the bleeding and incorperated it into the way i do cams. Half of the bled ones tick. Its like there is somthing else going on. It takes me 4 hours to do these. Very meticulous. I just installed a NEW set for a guy from jackson racing. The type that are not supposed to tick. This guys were bled and then ticked bad. The BRAND NEW ones ticked. One car was perfect for a month. Absoloutely quiet. Then they started ticking.....Before i do them now, i make that person read these posts on here to educate themselves as i cant guarantee no ticking........very frustrating......

I have no ticking. You dont have to bleed the lifters if your fast enough to replace the cam, otherwise its a good idea to do so. What cams, could possibly try and runner a thicker oil
