Yea I'm not sure. Hydraulic lifters are pretty trouble-free and usually only have problems with very high mileage or lack of oil changes. I'm guessing the guy who got his lifters replaced probably didnt keep up with his oil changes.

I did have a mechanic check the car and he told me that it was the lifters. That's the onlly reason I did the lifters. The car also makes the same noises in the summer when it has been sitting for a few hours. I've taken the car to an exhaust shop and he put a stethescope to the exhaust and said he couldn't hear a leak. Once it's time for an oil change I'm going to try amsol and maybe some seafoam later on down the road.

Hey I was reading and my 2002 Mitsubishi lancer OZ Rally edition is making the same noise. Seafoam works great...I had a inline 6 jeep grand cherokee with all the top lifters stickin so it sounded like it was gonna blow up if u even drove it a inch. Dumped a can of seafoam..drove it for 2.5 hours on my way to des moines iowa about a year ago and it worked all the lifters loose. Since my mitsubishi i just bought is making the same noise, I poured a can of sea foam hoping it will free up that sticky or stuck lifter. The noise tends to go away when its warm outside and the engine warm..but right now its cold out and you can just hear it tickin away.. So im hoping this can of sea foam will work it loose. Otherwise I'm gonna try a bottle of lucas. The formula trucks drivers swear by!Also if may not be the lifters, it could just be a fuel injector possibly from what i've read.
If you have any other suggestions let me know, Thanks ,Lenny

Thanks, let me know how the seafoam works for you. I'm thinking of doing it with my next oil change. I don't think it's my lifters since they were all replaced.

Hey you dont have to wait until oil change.. Seafoam you just pour into your gas tank! It worked great in my jeep. Idk bout the lancer yet, i think it got a lil louder but i dont really hear it due to the full exhaust system. But im goin on a 2.5 hour road trip at about 80 mph avg..so we'll see how well the sea foam works this weekend! Otherwise im gonna try CR2 or Lucas(upper engine lubricator) Otherwise if it still makes the noise like people say after repalcing the lifters..im thinking its prolly the fuel injectors need replaced or checked out or something.

Well i've ran a can of seafoam through the gas to lubricate the upper cylinders, and I used CR2 in my oilchange for the winter and it still has the ticking noise. So im thinking it might not be lifters at all. If you replaced all your lifters and still have the noise it obviosuly isnt your lifters. Just talkin to a few people and readin forumns everybody seems to think its the lifters. Try checking the fuel injectors, for they do make noises. When i ran seafoam it make my engine noise louder then what it was originally. I would say theres a good chance of a couple bad fuel injectors that could be plugged. So I'm thinking of buying 4 brand new fuel injectors could very well solve the problem. Once i get funds to purchase new fuel injectors and replace them i leave a updated post.

Sounds good. Thanks man. Hopefully you're able to solve your ticking problem too.
