Short Ram Intake, idle problem
Short Ram Intake, idle problem
I have a 2005 OZ Rally Lancer with 64k miles. This past November I did a transmission swap (from automatic to 5 speed), I also changed out the ecu (it came from a 5 speed 02 lancer). Now for the problem. I also have the RRM Short Ram Intake currently installed.
I bought my car brand new and it has always had a problem with the idle. It would get stuck between 1,300-2,000 rpms when I turn my car on but it happened so rarely I let it go. Within the past year, it has occured much more frequently and it doesn't ever go away. Now EVERYTIME I start my car it starts up between 1,300-2,000 rpms and the more stop and go driving I do, the worse it gets (the rpms will continue to rise up to 3,500). When I take it out on the highway and I can get it into 5th gear, when I come back to a stop, the rpms (most of the time) will return to 1,200 for a short while (2-3 minutes). Many times when I come to a stop the rpms will drop to 1,000 then shoot back up to 2,000 3-4 times in a row until it gets stuck at 1,600 or so.
Today, the service engine soon light came on so I took to a good friend of mine who hooked up this device to my car that told him there was a problem with the "idle box" or something like that. This is the first time my service engine soon light came on for it.
I disconnected my battery, unplugged and then plugged back in the maf sensor, started my car up, revved my engine a few times, let it sit for 10 minutes and it would be back at 900 rpms in idle. As soon as I drive for a few minutes, the rpms get stuck between 1,300 and 2,000 again.
Is there something obvious I'm missing? Any and all ideas appreciated.

hey i had a problem similar to this in my ralliart is the throttle cable normally mounted on the factory air box cause mine was then i changed it to a short ram and left it how it was. it got to close to the manifold heated up and stretched. you might need to fab a way of mounting it like i did.
