02 Lancer ES issue.. cold start with the idol way too high
My 2002 Lancer ES/manual transmission is having a cold start high idol issue..
It goes right to 2000k to 2300rpm's right off the cold start, this goes away once it's its at running temperature..
I really need to figure this out because cold starts in the winter time when it's -10 degrees will kill the bottom end..
No vacuum leaks found..
Can anyone offer me a little guidance on what to check next?
98k miles..
Thanks guys!

normal idle is 6-750rpm i believe i would check the iac (idle air control) if not sometimes the throttle cable can be adjusted by the two bolts on the intake mani, i WOULD NOT mess with the idle screw on the throttle body!!!! but mine did that and i adjusted throttle cable and been fine since sooooo....maybe the maf,,,,,,

I don't think the throttle cable would effect this because it goes away and idols normally once it warms up..
The cable doesn't even move when watching it the throttle body till it warms up..
This is purely a cold starting situation..
where is the IAC? I'm not very familiar with these cars.. If it was carbureted, I'd know what I'm doing

the throttle cable did affect mine and yes you can adjust it i had to swap motors so it worked for me....you can take your air inlet tube off and clean all the build up out of your throttle body that causes it to stick a little. the iac is right under your inlet tube on the throttle body, its a black round with three screws holding it on with a electrical connector wish i could get u a pic but my stuff being stupid.....maybe the throttle position sensor directly on back side of throttle body close to firewall.

I took off what looks to be from your description the IAC, I can't really see anything to clean on it..
I shot some carb cleaner down the port from inside the throttle body..
is this it? How exactly do you clean this?
Would the TPS cause this to idol high when cold started?
Thanks

thats it yea you cant really clean it but i do know that the springs were out a little further on mine and it was no good so i think you might be ok on that. open the butterfly on the tb and clean it out real good. the tps let your engine know the throttle position so it could affect your issue but since you have a manual tranny not sure if something else could cause it. the tps is that grey connector that looks like it has a white dot on it to thr right of the tb, i didnt take mine off cause it was a pain to get to....no room. you can check your map sensor (manifold absolute pressure) but there is no way to really check em just swap em out see if it helps. you need a friend that has all these sensors that will let you swap one at a time to see which one is out or if a junk yard has em cheap enough. hopefully its just a sensor...
