Car Shut Off =(
Car Shut Off =(
Hey guys tonight I was driving my car and then it just cut off with a hard jerk. Everything on the inside of my car went completely off and it felt as if my power steering was gone as well when I tried to direct my car to the side of the road (I don't know if that matters or not). I was told by a mechanic recently, that my transmission oil was due for a change (I didn't have time to change it yet) :frown: . But any who do you guys think that my transmission oil could be the case. I have a service engine light but that is for the "cat not warming up to threshold" problem.
What do you guys think it could be? This is the first this has happened to my baby. She only has 111k on her. :nopity:

Do you mean that the electrical shut off too? i had a similar issue and it turned out to be that my battery terminals were loose and corroded. Check your terminals and make sure they are secure, and also check where your ground cable connects to the chassis from the battery and make sure thats tight too. No the tranny oil wouldnt have anything to do with that nor would the code. Were you able to start the car after this incident?
i second the battery option but also look at the alternator. Have it read out at a local parts store. Were you driving with any other lights on other than the check engine light?
Thanks guys for the speedy responses. Yes I was able to start my car right after I rolled it in. I was able to start my car and drive it all the way back home without any problems. I have a sound system in my car (jl w7 with 500/1 amp), maybe that could be apart of the problem.
BTW yes I was driving with my head lights on. I pulled over for about 5min then drove away.

sounds exactly like a loose battery cable in that case. just check them really well and make sure any corrosion on them is taken off. And like i said, make absolutely sure to check the battery ground where it connects to the chassis right nest to the battery. and ya, as far as stereos go, ive had some that drained the battery even when the amp was off and others that were just awesome. But im pointing at the battery.
I second the battery, isn't is coke that can take off the corrosion? If it is I would try that.
Secondly, have you recently changed your terminals? If you have, I hope you got the copper ones and not the painted ones, as the paint can get in the way if you don't take a wire brush to the inside.
