Service Required Light Confusion
Service Required Light Confusion
It's been a year since I got my 08 Lancer gts with cvt, and once in a while, the dash shows me the "service required" sign. I read the car manual, and it told me to go to the dealer for any cvt malfunction. Has anyone went through this confusion? Again, the light only comes out randomly, not everyday. Would it be a shortage of cvt oil? whatever that means? Please
What sort of light is it....is it on the display, or a "tell-tale" light, like the ABS light at startup. Chances are its flagging a code for something, and after 2 "drive" cycles if the code does not get flagged again, then OBD will clear the light, but the code will still be stored. So, you need a code reader
The thing is im not even sure exactly what it is... if it's a check engine light, then I would go to pepboys to get the code for the malfunction. But this light likes to come on when you least expect it, like in the middle of driving. It just said "service required" then goes away to plan another surprise on me.
Service required usually pops up when you reach your service intervals.. Is it that or something different?
It's something different. I have been resetting the service interval, because I didnt want to make frequent stops at the dealers for an oil change or tire rotation. This light just comes on in the middle of driving...
I guess I'm the unfortunate one with this problem... Maybe I should bring it to the dealers soon...

For us to give you some help you have to answer the question I first asked!
Is the message possing up in the LCD display, or on the actualy instument cluster, IE) beside your ABS light?
If so the code will be stored and you can retrieve inactive codes...the light does not have to be on to read codes!
The code may not be for just the engine...there are up to 15 different ECU's in this vehicle to control various things. All may have the option of storing diagnostic trouble codes!

It pops up on the LCD display not the instrument lights on the dash. If the code can be retrieved with the warning light being turned on all the time in my case, should I just go to pepboys to get them to do a OBD reading?
