I had a Lancer 08 and I had to get the tint protector. Will I need it for my 2011 now? or did they fix it? Dealer doesnt know anything...

 

yea..I tell me dealer about it all the time, they said that need to clean my windows more often..which is bs cause lots of lancer owners have this problem.

but to answer your question, from what i understand the part numbers for that rubber window piece is the same from 08 to the present but yet it is still hit or miss

I would get it as a precaution...what kind of tint protector did you use?? I have moleskin installed and I still scratched...it scratched slower...but still did

 

I dont know but I never installed any tint protector on my 09 and I have zero scratches

 

I got my tint installed on my 10 and I havent had one scratch yet and I never got moleskin installed at all and I got my tint installed before last summer.

Had Tint Protector for years now with no problems...

Not sure if the 2011 needs it or not...

 

My 2011 mr has moleskin installed from factory.

 

the tinting people prolly put some sorta felt when they were tinting your windows cause mine's all scratched up and it's super anoying.

 

I got my friends neighbor install mine. Almost one year now with no scratches.

 

shouldnt need it on the 2011 from what i've seen/heard. but ymmv

 

Older models, like my 2008, have needed Moleskin applied to eliminate scratches on window tinting (wish I knew that BEFORE I installed tint). However, 2010 and up do not seem to have this issue, so I'm guessing that felt is now installed on the inside windows. A little disassembly on your end to verify would go great lengths. If it's got felt, you're good to go. If not, invest in Moleskin.

 

Question. I just bought a 08 GTS from the dealer and they are going to apply the tint using some "Computer controlled method" Will I still need the moleskin?

 

If it doesn't have it in there absolutely. I think they are talking about how they cut the plastic film. But since it is plastic it will scratch no matter how technical savvy they cut it.
