Unhappy New timing belt noises

I have never posted here before but here it goes. I got my serpentine belts done about a month a go and had no issues with them. Last week I got my timing belt done and I used the DAYCO timing belt water pump kit. When I got the car back from the mechanic he said that there was a noise coming from the timing belt and that it will go away in a couple of weeks due to the fact that the new belt needed to be broken in. I have been driving it since but the high pitch sound doesn't seen to get any better with time. I was wondering if any one have had this type of issues with timing belt or using Dayco brand? Any help is appreciated.

Some aftermarket belts make noise because some are made of Kevlar and don't stretch like the OEM belt. It could that and/or the belt is on too tight.

Any reason you didn't go with an OEM timing belt?

FWIW, if the belt was put on too tight...then it *should* loosen and the noise should go away after a while.

I didn't use OEM because my local Advance Auto had it in stock and some other kits I had to special order...and timing belt had never been done on this car (144k). So, I need it to do it ASAP. I will give it some time and if it doesn't go away I will take it back to him to see if he can loosen it up some.

On a different note...Does any one know how to adjust the head lights of a 03 Lancer? I lowered my car a few months a go and my lights are pointing straight in front of me.
Thanks for your help

It would be very hard to have the belt to tight since it is a automatic tensioner .

Also to adjust the headlights there is a 10mm in the lower/middle on the back of the headlight .

You are right it would be hard. I forgot there is an auto tensioner...now you go me wondering what the f****ck could be wrong? . Do you know if this whining noise could be causing any damage to the engine parts because it could be out of sync?

Do you have a pic of the 10mm bolt/screw? and which way is up/down.
Thanks for all your help.

It could be the style belt , bad tensioner pulley or waterpump . Or could just be the drive belts that are to tight or to loose .

Sorry i have different headlights the picture would not look the same , its pretty easy to see the lower bolt in the middle of the headlamp .

Tensioner Pulley might be lose or tight.

Did he put any belt grease on it? If he did I wouldnt recommend it as it defeats the purpose of a belt and causes slipping .

Unless the water pump and or the tensioner came bad from the manufacture...since the kit came with all the parts but they showed no sign of been used... I will give it some time and see what comes off it.

I will take a look at the lights this weekend and see if I can figure it out.
I appreciate your help...

I don't think he added any grease to the belt but I will ask I'm next time I see him. I googled this issue and I'm not alone. I will wait and see.
Thanks.

Ive helped replace multiple timing belts and finished installing mine and a buddies couple weeks ago ( same belt as you). He got a squeak and we had to readjust the pulley and the sound no longer exists.

I will be taking it back to him since I need some other items to be fix...I will ask him to take a look at it.

Have you used this guy before? I might try elsewhere if he thinks that noise was just supposed to go away. I am a mechanic and have done dozens of timing belts on various vehicles and never had that noise. Well actually I take it back but the noise was there before I did that timing belt, that particular job the water pump was going out causing the noise.

I used the blue belts gates racing for both timing and balance shaft and got the same problem with everything installed correctly.

There is a machining problem from the factory that causes the timing belt to track against the crank position Sheetmetal trigger wheel.

I you look at your old belt you will likely see a narrow bevel edge worn into one of the edges.

This is a know issue, a detailed search will turn up a thread that gives the revised part numbers for the motor mount on the timing side. This has to be removed and replaced to stop the problem.

No real issue, but annoying. Mine only makes a sound when cold started under about 60 degrees outside temp. The problem seems to be going away as a new bevel is worn into the belt. If this is your problem then you will also see rubber traces on the trigger wheel.

If you pull the serpentine belt and briefly run the engine ( 1 minute or less ) and still have the problem then it is a timing belt rubbing issue.
