Question Any Help with Motor Mounts???

I recently purchased a 2002 OZ Rally that needs a lot of work to get it up to date. When you brake and put the car in drive it shakes like crazy (not in park or any other gear) And when you accelerate until you speed up. Someone informed me that it could have an engine miss however I think that its the motor mounts. Does anyone have any advice on how to do this (maybe pics) or if I should just do all 3?

Check the front roll stopper, it is easy to replace and was the problem with my car. Check the front and rear roll stoppers for tears and make sure they are solid. The engine mount itself (located on passenger side) is pretty solid.

Thanks a lot I will try it in the next few days. Did you replace both?

The front was the only one that was bad in my car, it is most likely your problem. You can get it for like 75 dollars at the part store and it can be replaced without supporting the engine. Just remove the 3 bolts and install the new one.

Are their any additional motor mounts that affect any looseness in the transmission, or is that pretty much the only one?

If you can see in the picture, numbers 3 and 6 are the "roll stoppers". There are I think 1 or 2 more engine mounts, but I believe they are pretty solid and usually not in need of replacing. If another member wants to step in and correct me please do!

One of the other reasons I mention it is because I have been getting torque steer for a little while and am wondering if replacing those 2 roller stoppers will alleviate it, or if this energy is more related the actual motor mounts.

Your opinion, guys?

Question. Why can number 3 motor mount be replaced without supporting the engine versus the other motor mounts? I just want to make sure that my understanding is accurate.

The two mounts in the picture are the torque mounts. They dont really support the engine wieght. The two opposite of those (one by the timing belt and the other on the rear of the transmission) these are the mounts that support the wieght of the engine. If you've ever noticed rear drive vehicles that do not have the transverse mounted engines usually have just the two engine mounts since they act as supporting and torque mounts and are usually beefier.

Sounds good! I just wanted to make sure that this motor isn't going to fall on me, kill me, and defeat the purpose of changing the mount. :P How long do you think it takes to change this mount out? Maybe like 10 minutes? Looking at the engine, it doesn't look like you really have to clear anything out of the way to swap it out.

Oh yay!! I am looking forward to the reduction/possible elimination on torque steer!! I didn't have any when I bought the car a little over a year ago with 152,900 on it but 53k later, it's annoying holding the steering wheel just that little bit over the course of 300 miles to Pocatello. -.-

Guys I am running into a problem. The transverse bolt goes in fine. The front one is fine. Aft bolt is having major issues. It looks like whoever welded the nut made it slightly more forward so that to properly get it in, the head would have to be towards the back of the car. It is spinning and not going in. Threads are not biting. I need suggestions!!
