i dont know about the auto guys but for the standerd guys its the throw out bearing for the clutch...you will be able to tell by pressing the clutch in...if it rattles with the clutch disengaged and then goes away when you put the clutch in that is what it is....almost everyone i know with a lancer over 20000km has this problem
its warrinty

I had same noise since about 10000kms. I ignored it and then started to notice the clutch was slipping so i booked it in and they replaced the clutch / machined the flywheel and voila the noise is gone. Its been 15,000kms since it was replaced and so far the noise hasnt come back.

I was told it was from the solenoid opening and closing under higher temperatures.

I have the same noises on my car and here is what they are..... the rattling is a defect in the throw-out bearing.... the clicking or ticking is the injectors... and you may have a little lifter tick but it is usually normal on our cars.... i found this out by using a screwdriver and putting my ear on the end of it, it lets you hear lots of noise in unexpected places...
