the only clicking noise i hear comes from the cruise control unit above the throttle body. its that round cylindrigal gold thing that have a vacuum hose connected to it..@ idle, i hear that damn thing clicking from outside the car (with the hood closed) and sometimes inside the car,,,

tapping clicking or knocking?
sounds like low oil or over lifting lifters both as said before

it might be the solenoid opening and closing. does your idling rpms go higher or lower when you hear the noise?

I also have an 03 oz, i noticed the clicking. I've heard that all mitsubishi's make that noise. BS. most other lancers dont. I figure that redlining the engine durring the first 500miles may have hade somthing to do with it. or mabye bad motor mounts due to too many donuts on the stock 14's......by the way for all of you..there not real oz wheels, flip them over, you will find they were made in japan

there's a lot of lancers making the clicking noise, if it's coming from anywhere close to your engine, it's probably the lifters. if this is your case, try revving the engine (in neutral of course) from idle to 3000 rpm over 30 seconds. and the reverse, 3000 rpm to idle over 30 seconds. Do this 10 times.

and yes, the wheels were designed by OZ, an italian company, and manufactured by Enkei, a japanese company, it was a good business strategy for those companies.

Enkei is also know for its lightweight rims. We get 15# 15" rims. Baby Chrono Evolutions, if you will. not too shabby. Plus, can you imagine how much an OZ would cost if you had to get the Rims to the US from Italy via Japan

i'm certain its the lifters and nothing to worry about. Do check your oil but if you're fine, you're fine. Almost everybody notices this at one time or another and like an air conditioner you stop noticing the noise.
