Lancer starting problem

I just got done redoing the head gasket and timing on my 2003 Lancer es. Checked for interference and lined up the timing marks on the cam and crank. Change the spark plugs. When i try to start the car it seems like the timing is off or i am misfiring. What is going on?

Will it stay running at all? Forget to connect crank sensor?, Compression test? What was the exact cause of needing to do the head gasket in the first place? At any rate if it was me I would start by double checking EVERYTHING electrical is connected, maybe something slipped out. Next I would check for any blown fuses, if nothing comes up there then I would do a compression test.
