Angry Summer=Slow Lancer

Does anyone else with an auto Lancer drive s-l-o-w as can be with the air conditioning on? I know it takes away power but it shouldn't make this slow...

The AC will take away power no matter what car you have.

The AC will put a serious load on the engine. I always turn the AC off right as the light turns green and switch it back on as I hit cruising speed. This method will also save you a lot of gas, although you will be slightly hotter inside.

The car will also produce less horsepower because of the hotter intake temperatures. A turbo motor will suffer the most in the summer because the already hot air will be compressed by the turbo and cause the air to get even hotter. The intercooler has the tough job to get those temp in a reasonable range. A naturally aspirated motor like the Lancer will not have as drastic of an affect, but enough to where you will notice less power.

It's really slow at the beginning of the acceleration but once I hit around 40 it's fine...

Has anyone had a problem that under hard acceleration i.e. 5500 RPM the A/C compressor seems to kick off? When I hit it hard I can feel the air become warmer as I get into the high rpm range. After I reach cruising speed it gets cool again.

yeah I've felt the air warm up when accelerating f.t. with ac on. I totally turn the ac off at lights and don't throw it on until cruise speed is reached. luckily in colorado it rains like 10 days a year and we have 0 humidity. Back in Mich or any eastern state I can understand how you would have to keep it on.

Yeah here in Houston when the humidity is 110% (all the frickin' time) and the temp is 99F it gets sticky inside pretty quick.
