Abnormally low MPG after CAI install?

Hi guys, just today I installed a K&N typhoon cold air intake in my lancer. I made sure everything was installed properly and I didn't run into any hitches. The negative battery lead was unplugged for about an hour, which I believe effectively reset the ECU, and after everything was done, I started her up and allowed the engine to idle for a few minutes, with the occasional revving of the engine. I then proceeded to take give it a run and went up and back a hill going pretty fast. The next time I drove it for a short distance, the digital display that reads the MPG was only showing 1 mile per gallon. A few minutes later, and just as I got home, the display read 5.3 MPG. Before the install, the car would usually read much higher MPG, even during very short distances. So now I am questioning if I needed to leave the battery Disconected longer, if I should have let the engine idle longer, or if I should not have revved it during that time. I may try to leave the negative lead unplugged overnight and let her idle much longer the next morning, otherwise I'm not sure what the problem may be. Any input or tech advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
