CEL light

well i FINALLY went to autozone to get the code checked, it turned out to be the catalytic convertor or something..the code was P0421. I took off the cat when i was going to put on my test pipe but i didnt have enough time so i ended up putting the cat back on. Now the CEL didn't come up immediately after that, it took about 3 weeks until it finally came on..so my question is, should i take it to the dealer? or should i just get it cleared? thx in advance!

cause i didnt even TOUCH the o2 sensor, i took off the bolts on the cat, and then put it back on..so i doubt that damage. the car runs fine too..so yea, ill try resetting the ECU. i just hate taking off the negative because the ****in car alarm goes on when i put the negative back on..it's so startling and annoying..but ill do it, thanks for your replies

ok, pulling out the #8 fuse didnt reset the ecu so i just pulled the neg, put it back on and hear that nice alarm go off. lol.

anyways, that CEL is off! seemed like it was just a misread that the ECU had a while back..not really sure what the problem was but there seems to be no problem.

yeah I didn't have much luck with the #8 fuse either. I'm letting it sit right now.. I also pulled the other engine fuse which is a 15 amper at the end of the row.. that didn't get it either. Letting it sit, and we'll see. Otherwise alarm and negative terminal here I come!

after reseting your ecu should your car run a little bit funny cause i got that p0421 code and i reset my ecu by unpluging my battery and then when i plugged it back in my car was idling at 500 rpms and then when i put my car in park it would just shut off, i was wondering if it is supposed to be like that for a little while or what?
