Question Is it supposed to be Jerky when I spin my Tires?

I'm used to rear wheel drive vehicles... I owned a mustang before my lancer, and when I would spin my wheels, it would just spin, then catch, and off I'd go.

With my Lancer though, when I spin my tires, it is jerky (don't really know how to explain it). Is that normal with front wheel drive? Or is something wrong?

no problem i think that is why we are here .....

either that or to yell SEARCH everytime someone asks a question.

hmm... come to think of it i am gonna try that at work for the rest of the day. Anytime someone asks a questions I will blast them with a USE THE DAMN SEARCH button, lets see how that works.

and now a sugar cookie recipe:
1 cup sugar
1 stick butter or margarine (1/2 cup)
3 ou pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg yolk (reserve white)
2 and 1/4 cups unbleached flour

In a large bowl, combine first six ingredients; blend well. (Add food coloring at this stage, if you are making red or green cookies.) Add flour. Chill dough at least 2 hours. Heat oven to 350 to 375 degrees. On lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with lightly-floured cookie cutters. Decorate with sprinkles. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes

I think wheel hop is fixed by a stiffer front engine mount... there is a tutorial on how to tweak it a little bit. Lemme see if i can find it.

Here it is:

I'm sure there is much more detailed info out there if you search around, but wheel hop is caused by the tires rapidly cycling between spinning and gripping. In general, something in the car -- in the suspension or drivetrain -- is being compressed, stretched, or twisted during acceleration until the stored energy is enough to overcome the tire's traction. Then the tire breaks loose, the stored energy is released all at once, and the tire hooks up again.

The point about the motor mounts is a good possibility with a FWD car. Suspension bushings are also a common culprit which can cause wheel hop. In really high torque applications (like with sub-10-second drag cars), wheel hop can even be caused by the axle itself flexing and twisting.

lol Vince, that was so funny I laughed hysterically for minutes. Anyway, I'm closing it since it seems to be answered. A few good posts on wheel hop in here, so I hope if people run a search in the future, they find this one and get jbrennen's info... and if they're hungry...
