Code P0725. Help please

Hey everyone,

The check engine lights been coming on in my wives 08 lancer DE, I'm getting a P0725 code thrown at me. I did a little research and a lot of people were saying its the Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP) so I replaced it, about 3 or 4 days later the CEL came back on. Any ideas or has anyone figured out this code? The internet isn't helping much all I'm finding are these possible problems
-Engine Coolant Temp (ECT) sensor
-Defective Valve Body
-Dirty Transmission fluid
-Defective shift solenoids
-Defective Input/Turbine speed sensor
-Cam sensor

Way too many things to replace, any input would be appreciated
Thank you

P0725 is a code that sets when the engine speed and trans speeds don't match. According to AllData, it's either a CAN Bus error or you need a TCM.

Cool thanks for the response!
Ive never heard of CAN bus. What is that exactly ? Is it replaceable ? Expensive ? And do the TCM's usually go out pretty easy ? Feels like this cars turning into a lemon

CAN is the system the modules in the car use to communicate with each other. If I were you, I'd pay the dealer for an hour of diagnostic time and let them figure it out. The CAN system can only be diagnosed with the Mitsubishi scan tool.

Here is the diagnostics from the service manual. If you have the schematics and are savvy with a multimeter, you can diagnose the CAN bus by yourself. It is simply two wires that run to the multiple ECU's in the vehicle. Diagnosing the data link can get pretty intense. Especially if it is intermittent. I have seen small rub through on wires that will ground it intermittently or short the data link. Even another ECU sending garbage signals down the CAN bus causing it to fault. Good luck with this one.

P0725

Hello everyone,

I am new to the lancer community. I recently have been getting a P0725 for about two weeks. What ended up being the solution?

I have a '08 GTS with about 96k on it. Just bought it six months ago. This past weekend i replaced spark plugs, crankshaft positioning sensor and purchased tires and alignment on a different issue. about 3 months ago I had the muffler cut off at a local exhaust shop for sound.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Also

This code seems to come on usually when its in the morning within 15 minutes of starting the car and driving it and coming to a red light. When i switch from brake to gas on the green light it will die but start right back up..... Happened 3 times in 3 weeks so far.
