The problem is the tires would no longer disipate static charge from the car, because of the absense of carbon black. Maybe those Yokohama tires on the Lancer have a high silica content, which cause the car to carry a larger charge, which would cause the shock. For anyone still interested, Im going to bable more about the silica tire in the next paragraph.

Now silica based tires are quite common. One company that has alot of tires lines with silica is Yokohama. Besides the grounding prob with the static, silica is a not a bad compound agent. The only major problem is it rips the crap out of tire molds. (read again, sand.)

Theres my newest rant, sorry guys.........damn engineers...

That explains alot...I have yokohama's on my lancer and I always
get a static shock...ever since I got it..although in the summer you dont get zapped..that or the tires are broke in

I had that problem in my car from 35-65K in mileage in autumn and winter . Sudenly, I hit the 70K mark . . . it's gone. It can be the tires since I had Yoko Avids H4 at the time . . . now, I'm w/ Dunlops.

I attributed to weather, carpet, and seat fabric. Also, I have gotten shocked so many dang time that I ceased to feel it anymore.

Man...I thought I was the only one that this happened to..... I have a 2003 OZ Lancer that has the same problem with static discharge once out of the car(closing the door/etc.). I don't have the factory Yucko's (Yoho's), but Goodyears up front and Pirelli's in the rear. What's werid is that I sometimes bomb around town in my project Escort and have the same thing happen to me too. Both cars have had aftermarket sound systems installed...would the grounding systems or possible exposed wires to metal for sound system have anything to do with it???

I had that problem too, but when I got some dunlop tires, stock tires really do not do well, the shocks went away for the most part. Maybe it's a combination of things, but I just wanted to put in my .02

Weather also plays a part. The less humidity - the more static charge builds up. Usually its worse in the winter since cold air doesn't hold moisture as well as in the summer when the air is warmer - unless your in the southern hemisphere, then the opposite would be true
