GAPPING IS THE REQUIRED DISTANCE BETWWEN THE NODE OF THE SPARK PLUG AND THE PULG ITSELF OR IN OTHERWORDS THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE LITTLE ARM AND THE BUTTON LOOKIN THINGY ON THE PLUG.

[EDIT]: yea, IK-16 is the # for our lancer

[EDIT the sequel ]: i saw in another post something about gapping... i'm not too knowledged about plugs so i'm curious what gapping is and if i have to worry about when i put them in. someone in the post said the IK-16 denso plugs have a plastic piece so you dont have to worry... anyone confirm this? (SQL?)
Hobie doesn't have ESP. He has the same plugs.

I didn't mess with gapping at all. No problems whatsoever. They come protected in plastic sheaths and should be properly gapped right out of the box. I think you'll at least notice smoother idle and accel with the new SP's. I did.

Thanks for the info for those who didn't know but please don't post in caps, Rob?

Rob, something tells me you're not reading much of this thread.

Look back to bcustom asking the same question and my first response. And for the love of God, please don't post in all caps.

Mine were still fairly clean. If I could freakin' find my camera's battery charger I could get some of my freakin' pics up and take some of the freakin' spark plugs! (freakin')

So frustrating! Life lesson #109,410 never let your sister borrow anything...ever.

Sounds like the same thing that happened to me in my Evo 5. Its still happening actually. And i only have about 1000 miles on it. And I have no modifications except for a blow off valve on it. Everytime I get around 5000 rpm, its like the engine just stops! It hesitates. I changed my spark plugs but it didn't solve the problem so I doubt its the plugs. I need help too on this so help!!!!

Did you get the injectors checked? For something like that I'd just take it to a mech and eat the bill.

you shouldn't gap iridium plugs anyways. not only do they come pre grapped for you but you can damage the iridium tip by gapping them

I may be wrong, but I think all you need is the right socket with a long extension.

Yeah, I ghetto rigged two extensions on a socket with a 3/4" (If I remember correctly) driver. I ended up using a straightened coat hanger to reach in and pull the plugs up into finger's reach because I was seriously lacking in the tool department for that one.

EDIT: VERY easy, aerial. The only reason it took me more than 15 minutes was because I was scared I was going to break a wire when I was unplugging it at first. I was such a sissy with the first one. Be sure to use anti-sieze so that the sparks don't corrode/rust/whatever in place and become difficult/impossible to remove. It will help avoid stripping the threading as well hopefully.
